Daily Weather and COVID-19 Update for April 9, 2020







OUTLOOK

A cold front crossed our area from the northwest on this morning, bringing cooler and drier high pressure behind it that will spread over the region for Friday and Saturday. Low pressure with abundant moisture is expected to impact our region on Sunday and Monday before high-pressure returns by the middle of next week.

BURN BAN

A ban on open burning in the 32 western counties of North Carolina is in effect until further notice. [LINK]

Tonight

Partly cloudy and windy. Much cooler with lows ranging from the mid-30s to around 30. Winds out of the northwest 15 to 25 mph. Gusts up to 30 mph, increasing to 40 mph after midnight.

Friday

Sunny, windy with highs ranging from the lower 40s to the upper 40s. Winds out of the northwest 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, diminishing to around 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph in the afternoon.

Friday Night

Clear. Lows ranging from the mid-to-upper 30s to the lower 30s. Winds out of the northwest 10 to 15 mph.

Saturday

Sunny. Highs ranging from the mid-50s to around 60. Winds out of the northeast around 5 mph, shifting to come out of the south in the afternoon.

Mostly cloudy. A chance of showers in the evening, then showers likely after midnight. Lows ranging from the lower 40s to the upper 40s. Chance of rain 70 percent.

CDC recommendation Regarding the Use of Cloth Face Coverings, Especially in Areas of Significant Community-Based Transmission [LINK]



The CDC website [LINK] reports 3,221 people in North Carolina are confirmed to be infected and that the infections are widespread, the NCDHHS website [LINK] reports 3,426 cases, 386 hospitalized and 53 deaths in the state. The Johns Hopkins Dashboard [LINK] reports 3,576 people infected and 67 deaths (these include non-residents located in NC).
