Three New Counties Join Mumpower On Principles First

PRESS RELEASE

Republican Congressional candidate Carl Mumpower has persisted in his 'Principles First' campaign and this week was rewarded with the support of three more NC-11 counties.

Mumpower had taken an unusual step several weeks ago in suspending his campaign to create action around his party's principles. In the candidate's efforts toward a grass roots conservative reform movement, he had asked his county parties to commit to a rededication to the party's core principles and the creation of their own approach to holding local, state and national officials accountable to those principles. In four days the candidate received the commitment of eight counties and renewed his campaign as promised. As the same time, three other counties formally severed connections with the candidate - canceling speaking engagements and refusing to allow him to participate in Republican activities.

"I am grateful for the support of Madison, Yancey, and Haywood counties," said Mumpower. "This was not a small request, and I understand the apprehensions generated and appreciate their courage and trust. We now have a commitment from eleven of fifteen counties, and I am hopeful we can get at least two more on board - maybe more, as I have opportunities to get in front of folks and explain the effort. We are heading to Polk County on Monday for a Town Hall meeting and a chance to spread the message."

"I bare no ill will toward the counties that have disavowed our campaign," said Mumpower. "A different breed of politician who is very serious about reforming the party back to its foundation principles is a big pill to swallow. As the only Republican candidate covering the entire District, I am the person realistically in a position to take urgent action on the need for a public rededication to our founding principles. It has not been easy, but the union of eleven out of fifteen counties makes a strong statement to the voters of the 11th District that the word 'Republican' stands for something they can count on."

Commentary

I give Mumpower points for sticking to his guns, may have been guilty of misunderestimating him yet again.
