OUTLOOK

A strong low pressure system approaching from the southwest will support widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms from this evening through Monday morning. In the storm`s wake, Snow is expected to develop in the mountains near the North Carolina and Tennessee border from late Monday through Tuesday. Another strong low may cross the region at the end of the week.

Tree Lighting Ceremony Held in Franklin



The annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony was a subdued affair this year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The tree lighting itself was the only public event and the in-person singing and muical performances were not held, along with the carriage rides and Cookies with Santa that are normally sponsored by the Town of Franklin and the Merchants Association. The main focus of the day was a shop local theme. The Nativity Scene installment has been postponed until Monday and a small candelight service will be held at a later date. The Franklin Chamber of Commerce 2020 Christmas Parade

Today, Sunday, November 29, 2020, was the Franklin Chamber of Commerce 2020 Christmas Parade in Franklin, NC. 

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Chamber of Commerce modified the parade route and there were no walkers and no one handing out candy or other items. The exception to the walkers was the FHS Franklin Panthers Marching Regiment. Below are the video and a sampling of photos taken during the parade.

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

1. A non-tropical low pressure system located about 600 miles southeast of Bermuda is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms, mainly to the north and east of the center. Environmental conditions are expected to be only marginally conducive for development this weekend as the low moves northeastward ahead of an approaching frontal system. By early next week, the system is expected to become absorbed by this frontal system over the north-central Atlantic.

* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...30 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...30 percent.

2. A non-tropical low pressure system has formed over the far eastern Atlantic. This system is expected to move southward about midway between Portugal and the Azores over the weekend. Environmental conditions are forecast to be marginally conducive for the low to acquire subtropical characteristics early next week while it meanders just to the north of the Canary Islands. Additional information on this system can be found in high seas forecasts issued by Meteo France.

Dry high pressure will be in control of our weather for Friday into Saturday. A strong low pressure system approaching from the southwest may support a threat for heavy rain late Sunday into Monday. 1. A well-defined, non-tropical low pressure system located several hundred miles southeast of Bermuda is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Little development is expected for the next day or two due to unfavorable upper-level winds. By late Saturday or Sunday, however, environmental conditions are expected to become a little more conducive for the low to acquire subtropical characteristics while it moves northeastward ahead of a frontal system. By early next week, conditions are expected to become unfavorable for further development as the system interacts with or becomes absorbed by a frontal system.

* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...50 percent.

2. Another non-tropical area of low pressure is expected to form over the far eastern Atlantic during the weekend. This system could gradually gain subtropical characteristics while it moves slowly southward to the west of Portugal through early next week.
