Conservative Bloggers

A Watauga Conservative has an article about Congress Critter Virginia Foxx (NC-05) using twitter, but did not include a link to her account. I am also on twitter. 

The Appalachian Scribe is still in Korea, and still blogging about things Carolina and Tennessee.

The Carolina Stompers have noted that the cost of the Coronation, I mean Inauguration of Obama will cost 110 million dollars!!! That's nearly 30 cents per person in the country.

Cold Fury has an article on the Clinton/Rodham crime family.

Conservatives United! has a post on indoctrination.

Hillbilly White Trash has comments on the little messiah's new pastime, RINO hunting.

The Inner Banks Eagle also comments on it, noting that conservative has lost it's meaning. I can only add that it lost it's meaning long ago, and certain proof was that John McCain called himself a conservative with near impunity in this last election cycle, and most "conservative" bloggers let him. I did not, and also noted that the majority of active Republicans are not conservative. 

The problem is that most people think of themselves as conservative in our party because they get the warm fuzzies about President Reagan, and neglect to actually study conservatism, or it's history.

Insight on Freedom, one of my favorite North Carolina bloggers, has a piece called "The Attack of the "useful Idiots" Against Israel". To which I can only add, Amen, brother! 

The Pirates Cove comments that the latest message from Osama to Obama sounds like something you'd find on a lefty blog. Those are my thoughts exactly.

Think Tank Bloggers

The Asheville City Council blog has information on the consent and unconsent agendas.

The Buncombe County GOP is asking for people to join their online community, which is on the same platform I have mine on, Ning. If you wish to create an online community of like-minded people for fun or debate...there is no better way than the Ning platform. I am a memeber of about a dozen or so Ning communities, and you can find more about Ning on their blog...and their latest post trumpets the creation of 40,000 new networks in 14 days!

A new "blog" has been created by some guys in Raleigh called Conservative NC, and they posted a plan called NC GOP Strategy for Sucess.

The NCGOP blog, Seeing Red Again, has issued the latest e-Newsletter, and has started a facebook page to go with a new website they will be launching on inauguration day.

Jeff Taylor, on the John Locke Foundation blog, The Meck Deck, pays tribute to Ricardo Montalban on his passing.

The Public Policy Polling blog examines black turnout in North Carolina in the last election.

WHO ARE WE?

Allow us to put our cards on the table at the outset: We are two young conservative journalists—both in our 20s. Unlike many of our peers, we are not swept up in Obamamania and would prefer John McCain to win the election. We’ve teamed up with seasoned blogger extraordinaire, Ed Morrissey, whose careful and thoughtful pursuit of the truth—even when it benefits his political opponents—is respected across the blogosphere. In that spirit, we are not at all interested in perpetuating lies, rumors, and innuendo about Barack Obama. Promoting such information does America a disservice, allows Obama’s supporters to justifiably cry “smear,” and damages our own credibility.

What follows is by no means comprehensive, but it does shed some much-needed light on a number of Obama’s positions, statements, and associations about which he has been less than honest. We’ve attempted to boil each issue down to a succinct explanation with an accompanying, brief video clip—often starring Barack Obama in his own words. Before pulling the lever for someone who hopes voters will ignore his paper-thin resume, unsavory associations, and hard-left voting record, each citizen has a duty to do his due diligence.
In short, we hope this “closing argument” is compelling and clear, and we encourage you to share this essay with undecided or wavering family members, friends, and co-workers.

THE CONTEXT

If recent polls are to believed, freshman Senator Barack Obama has a better than average chance of becoming America’s 44th President, the Commander-in-Chief of the planet’s most powerful military, and the proverbial leader of the free world. It’s worth mentioning that just four years ago as President Bush and Senator John Kerry were vying for the White House, Obama was still a part-time State Senator representing a liberal district in Chicago. Before that he was an attorney and, famously, a community organizer. In 2008, Obama has positioned himself as a post-partisan, thoughtful moderate with the superior judgment required to lead the country. These are lofty promises from a man with precious little executive experience, and a Senate career that lasted exactly 143 legislative days before he launched yet another campaign for higher office. No one can deny his ambition. In fact, if Obama wins on November 4th—and serves one full term in the Oval Office—the Presidency of the United States would be the longest consecutively held full-time job he has ever held without seeking another.

Barack Obama promises “change,” which is an appealing concept to an American public weary of a beleaguered administration and worried about the future. They are faced with a candidate who promises them everything: Tax cuts for 95% of Americans, universal healthcare, peace, saving the planet, and—according to his wife—the “healing” of Americans’ souls. As the saying goes, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Questions abound: Is this man prepared to be president? Does he hold mainstream values and policy preferences? Who has influenced his thinking, and where does he want to take the country? Has he been honest with the people from whom he seeks votes?

Video Your Vote (Just Be Aware It May Be Illegal)

Citizens to Document Their Voting Experiences From Polling Places

SAN BRUNO, CA and ARLINGTON, VA--(Marketwire - October 15, 2008) - YouTube, the leading online video community that allows people to discover, watch and share originally created videos, has partnered with PBS to empower American voters to upload their Election Day voting experiences to YouTube (http://youtube.com/videoyourvote).

Commentary

Be aware that some poll workers will try to interfere with you taking photographs or video at the polling places. If this happens to you, be sure you video them telling you this, and put it on you tube so the world can know, and email me a link to the video as well.

I was covering the May Primary earlier this year, and a poll worker at Cullowhee was very insistent that taking photos and video inside a polling place was illegal...and refused to allow me to hand off my camera to someone else so they could video themselves voting.

I surrepticiously took some photos anyway and left, but did not take video. None of the other polling places that day prevented me from taking photos or video.

Here are a few tips.

Here is the law relating to photographic and video activity at polling places in North Carolina:

Limited access to the voting enclosure.

§ 163‑166.3.(b) Photographing Voters Prohibited. – No person shall photograph, videotape, or otherwise record the image of any voter within the voting enclosure, except with the permission of both the voter and the chief judge of the precinct. If the voter is a candidate, only the permission of the voter is required. This subsection shall also apply to one‑stop sites under G.S. 163‑227.2. This subsection does not apply to cameras used as a regular part of the security of the facility that is a voting place or one‑stop site.
(c) Photographing Voted Ballot Prohibited. – No person shall photograph, videotape, or otherwise record the image of a voted official ballot for any purpose not otherwise permitted under law. (2001‑460, s. 3; 2005‑428, s. 1(b); 2007‑391, s. 23.)

And here is what I found on a Citizen Media website regarding North Carolina:

The North Carolina law bearing any relation to photographing or videoing around polling places is titled “Limitation on activity in the voting place and in a buffer zone around it.”
N.C.G.S.A. § 163-166.4. This law makes unlawful activities that “hinder access, harass others, distribute campaign literature, place political advertising, solicit votes, or otherwise engage in electionrelated activity in the voting place or in a buffer zone which shall be prescribed by the county board of elections around the voting place.” This law does not explicitly mention filming or photography, and these activities may be lawful so long as they are not done in a harassing manner.However, North Carolina may be particularly in flux regarding the issue of observing people at polling places. In 1998, the North Carolina Attorney General issued an advisory opinion that polling place observers appointed by political parties should not use video cameras. 1998 N.C. AG LEXIS 43, October 22, 1998.
This same opinion noted that use of video cameras by the news media was appropriate. However, this opinion was issued 8 years ago, and relies in part on statutes that are no longer law (§§ 163-135 through 163-159, labeled “General Instructions,” were repealed in 2002).According to Sec. 4.1 of the Raleigh municipal code (http://www.municode.com/Resources/gateway.asp?pid=10312&sid=33), they follow the North Carolina state voting laws with only one except relating to campaign expense regulation.

Operation Beta Shield Ready For Download

I have been getting my Star Trek fix since last fall via some fan produced shows on the Internet.

One of them is the Hidden Frontier series which takes place in the Briar Patch of Star Trek: Insurrection fame. The series ran for seven seasons and has generated several spin-offs.

The latest (to my limited knowledge) available is Operation Beta Shield, the trailer for which is below.




I suggest that you start with the earlier seasons of Hidden Frontier to catch up on the story line, but it is not necessary.

These shows are produced entirely by volunteers and nearly all the sets are chroma-keyed in.
