High pressure will remain centered over the western Atlantic while a broad upper-level trough persists over the eastern part of the nation for the better part of the next week. A weak cold front will linger over our region early this week, helping to generate showers and thunderstorms. Another upper-level disturbance will approach our area toward the end of the week, further enhancing the coverage of showers and storms at that time.

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
1. A broad low pressure system has remained nearly stationary for the past several hours about 650 miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. Although shower and thunderstorm activity is currently disorganized, environmental conditions are forecast to become more conducive for the development of a tropical depression after midweek. The disturbance is expected to drift westward for the next day or two, followed a motion toward the west-northwestward at around 10 mph.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...70 percent.
