Weather Briefing for Groundhog Day, 2025
Thunder Pig Says Six More Weeks of Winter

Today is Groundhog Day. In keeping with tradition, if the sky is cloudy today, there will be an early spring; if it is sunny, we'll have a second winter for six more weeks.

Based on that, the Macon Media Whistle Pig "Thunder Pig" forecasts six more weeks of winter in the Franklin area.

Here is the poem.

When the groundhog sees his shadow on the morning of Mary Candlemas, he will again go into his hole and remain there for six weeks. But if the morning of Mary Candlemas is overcast, the groundhog will remain outside and there will be another spring.

GENERAL OUTLOOK

Some patchy drizzle is possible this morning thanks to cold air damming developing. Much cooler temperatures can be expected this afternoon thanks to the wedge. Temperatures will warm starting Monday, climbing well above normal for most of next week. Unsettled weather will return after Wednesday and continue into the weekend.
