I found an interesting article over at Redstate on my morning rounds:
Last week on his radio show, Morning in America, Bill Bennett proposed that the GOP presidential candidates hold a joint press conference. The purpose of such an event would be for the declared candidates to position themselves firmly beside President Bush and in support of his policies in fighting the Global War on Terror. Additionally, and perhaps more importantly, the candidates would be placing themselves directly in the path of a Congress hell bent on bringing about a defeat for America in Iraq.
Every candidate for the GOP nomination needs to stand up right now. In fact, I'd urge them to hold a joint press conference and stand up and say a) they support the troops and their mission; b) they believe in giving Petraeus and Lynch and their boys a chance; and c) that they will do everything in their political power to lead us through to victory, rather than retreat. It would be a helluva statement and a necessary corrective to the national debate. They should get together on this and do it next week. It would make the cover of every paper and we think it'd show the American people and the world that while we are divided on some things, we are not divided on war—at least one party in America is not divided. Guys, do this.
This is an idea whose time is now. This week, Congress continues to debate new and exciting plans designed to guarantee failure and humiliation in Iraq. The Republican presidential candidates, who stand to inherit the disaster the Democratic Congress is attempting to engineer, should put their primary rivalry aside for one day and fight back.

Will any of the current GOP candidates accept?
I don't think they will because most of them are cowards, and do not have the vision such a move requires, not to mention leadership. That is one of the reasons the Fred Thompson campaign has generated so much buzz, so much hope, the current candidates do not.

They won't do it because Bush has a 28% approval rating, and the War in Iraq is polling almost as poorly.
The President is a buffoon, and the war was a mistake. Those are probably the best reasons not to stand next to the man and pledge fealty
And Congress is polling at 14 to 16 percent...
It won't really matter because we'll probably attack Iran before Bush 43 leaves office, if the assymetric stuff hasn't yielded sufficient results. The SOF and SAS boys having been keeping the mullahs to busy holding the country together.
It didn't help that the Republicans left the House at about 26% when they lost power, and I anticipate the current GOP filibusters will become a liability for them as well.
You're in favor of attacking Iran? Madness.
I have it good authority we have been there for quite a while, and that their military is a paper tiger. We are currently rolling up their networks so that the blowback stateside will be minimized to volunteer acts and minor cells.
Have you not been paying attention to how well our current military and civilian leadership ballsed up the mission in Iraq?
I am mystified by your confidence in these bozos and in your pro-war sensibility.
The Battle of Iraq is going well, despite the proven lies and misrepresentation of "our" media.
How can you believe a news organization that reports fake news, even allowing the enemy to stage scenes for them to photograph, including moving bodies around for effect. They use doctored photos on a regular basis, and the reporters very rarely leave the Green Zone, like Michael Yon and others do...they rely on local stringers who may or may not be sympathetic to the jihadis.
Our number one success, in my opinion, is denying them the use of Iraq as the seat of their next caliphate, from which their prophesies tell them, the world will be ruled from.
But then again and again, I keep telling you that the nature of war has undergone a shift.
Start here for a primer, then go here to get up to speed.
I'll use a recent terror attack as an example of this type of warfare.
The London and Glasgow Bombing attempts were perceived as failures, but they had an additional component that was successful, a 5GW attack on the UK Health System. All involved in the attack were doctors. They have raised suspicions against other foreign doctors in the system.
There are similar 5GW reasons we are in Iraq, and in Iran.
I have already said too much, all you have to do is look behind the curtain, since I have been kind enough to bring you to the backstage. I can't see the whole picture, but I think I see (and read observations of others) enough to make a projection about the rest.
Frank Herbert knew exactly what I'm talking about.
