OUTLOOK
A strong cold front will move across the region early in the day, with rain changing to snow across the mtns. Cold air will move in today on blustery northwest winds behind the front. High pressure should move overhead on Sunday and then offshore by Monday, allowing temperatures to warm back to normal for the first part of the new week. Another rainy storm system is expected to move in Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Light snow accumulations are possible this morning and travel difficulties could last into tonight, especially near the Tennessee border. Strong winds will occur across the area behind the cold front, possibly causing minor tree damage and some power outages. Rain will develop tonight ahead of a strong cold front. Once the front passes, temperatures will fall rapidly. This may allow the rain to change over to snow. At least light snow accumulations are possible and travel difficulties could last into Saturday night, especially near the Tennessee border. Strong winds will occur across the area behind the cold front, possibly causing minor tree damage and some power outages. High elevations will experience dangerously cold wind chills at times Saturday afternoon and night.
* WHAT...For the Winter Weather Advisory, snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. For the Wind Chill Advisory, very cold wind chills expected. Wind chills as low as 10 below zero.
* WHERE...Northern Jackson and Macon Counties.
* WHEN...For the Winter Weather Advisory, until 7 PM EST this evening. For the Wind Chill Advisory, from 3 PM EST this afternoon to 8 AM EDT Sunday.
* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. The cold wind chills could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Rain will change to snow across the mountains of North Carolina early this morning, reaching down to the valley floors by sunrise, as temperatures fall quickly below freezing. Snow will taper off to the Tennessee border by mid-morning, and should end everywhere by sunset. Temperatures across the mountains will remain below freezing through the day, so black ice is possible. Winds will be strong enough to knock down a few tree limbs and power lines.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors, make sure you wear a hat and gloves.
