OUTLOOK

A moist low pressure system will move over the forecast area and bring widespread rain today through the overnight. Dry weather returns Thursday with a weak, yet moist, cold front crossing the region late Friday into Saturday. Dry high pressure builds in Sunday and slowly moves east through early next week.

Macon County Reports Four Additional Deaths Related to COVID-19

Macon County Public Health received notification that four Macon County residents, over 65 who were diagnosed with COVID-19, have passed away. To protect the privacy of the families, no additional information will be released. This brings Macon County to one hundred and eight (108) deaths related to COVID-19.

“Please keep your thoughts and prayers with these families” said Health Director, Kathy McGaha. McGaha continued, “We have seen a significant decline in COVID-19 cases; however, residents can continue to protect themselves by receiving the COVID-19 vaccine and booster if eligible.”

If you believe that you may have COVID-19, please call the Health Department at 828-349-2081 to schedule an appointment for a test. To register and schedule an appointment to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, please call 828-349-2081.

2016 – A bomb detonates in a bus carrying government employees in Peshawar, Pakistan, killing 15 and injuring at least 30.

2016 – Two suicide bombers detonate their explosives at a mosque during morning prayer on the outskirts of Maiduguri, Nigeria, killing 24 and injuring 18.

2020 – The Dow Jones Industrial Average falls by 2,997.10, the single largest point drop in history and the second-largest percentage drop ever at 12.93%, an even greater crash than Black Monday (1929). This follows the U.S. Federal Reserve announcing that it will cut its target interest rate to 0–0.25%.

2021 – Atlanta spa shootings: Eight people are killed and one is injured in a trio of shootings at spas in and near Atlanta, Georgia, U.S. A suspect was arrested the same day.
