• The official hurricane season for the Atlantic basin is from June 1 to November 30, but tropical cyclone activity sometimes occurs before and after these dates, respectively. The peak of the Atlantic hurricane season is September 10, with most activity occurring between mid-August and mid-October.

Active Systems:
The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Hurricane Franklin, located a few hundred miles northeast of Bermuda, on Post-Tropical Cyclone Idalia, located midway between the coast of North Carolina and Bermuda, and on Tropical Storm Jose, located several hundred miles east of Bermuda.
1. Eastern Tropical Atlantic (AL94):
Showers and thunderstorms continue to show signs of organization in association with an elongated area of low-pressure located just west of the Cabo Verde Islands. A short-lived tropical depression or tropical storm is expected to form today while the system moves northwestward at 10 to 15 mph across the eastern tropical Atlantic.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...high...90 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...high...90 percent.
2. Central Subtropical Atlantic (Remnants of Gert):
Showers and thunderstorms have become better organized during the past several hours in association with an area of low-pressure located several hundred miles north-northeast of the northern Leeward Islands. If this current trend continues, a tropical depression is likely to form today before upper-level winds become increasingly unfavorable over the weekend. The system is forecast to meander over the subtropical Atlantic through this weekend.

3. Eastern and Central Tropical Atlantic:
A tropical wave is expected to move off the west coast of Africa this weekend. Environmental conditions could support some gradual development of this system through the middle part of next week while it moves westward to west-northwestward over the eastern and central portions of the tropical Atlantic.

Join us for "9/11Remembrance" Monday September 11th (Franklin, NC Town Square 8:30am) as we honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. We will remember those who gave their lives to save others or lost their lives from this terrorist attack.
Chief Devin Holland of Franklin Police Department and Chief Ben Ormond of Franklin Fire and Rescue and other special guests will read the time frame of the attacks of Tuesday September 11, 2001.
Various special guests will join the event in remembering and reminding the guests of the event to "Never Forget." We will have a moment of silent at the end of the program to honor those lives lost on September 11, 2001 and celebrate their lives on "Patriot Day" through music and prayer.
