---Recent News Recap--- A police pursuit on Saturday resulted in a couple of accidents on Georgia Road near the intersections of Siler Road and Lowe's Access Road. The driver of the pursued vehicle was arrested and charged. The pursuit originated in Rabun County, but was discontinued due to erratic behavior by the driver that put other motorists at risk. Units of the Macon County Sheriff's Office observed the vehicle and initiated a pursuit after the vehicle presented a danger to other vehicles on the road. The suspect was involved in multiple collisions with vehicles between Siler Road and Lowe's Access Road where the pursuit ended after the a crash. See coverage below. Statement from the Franklin Police Department:
"On Saturday September 23, 2023 Franklin Police Department Officers were involved in a vehicle pursuit that originated from Rabun County, GA. Law Enforcement in Rabun County initiated a vehicle pursuit which resulted in the suspect colliding into another vehicle. Rabun County terminated the pursuit, but gave Macon County 911 the description for a local agency BOLO (Be On the Lookout).
The suspect vehicle was located on U.S. Highway 23 (Georgia Road) near the Franklin City Limits. Law Enforcement Officers attempted to stop the suspect, at which time she fled a short distance. The suspect began to flee by driving between other vehicles, and in the opposite lanes of travel which resulted in her vehicle colliding into four other vehicles causing her vehicle to become disabled. At one point, the suspect vehicle nearly collided into a FPD cruiser. Law Enforcement Officers were able to take the suspect into custody without further incident. Fortunately, there were only minor injuries to one other motorist. The suspect was identified as Isadora Moura Martinelli, age 33 of Tennessee, formerly from Brazil.
She is being held at the Macon County Detention Center with a $25,000 secured bond for our charges, and a $25,000 secured bond for Georgia charges.
We appreciate the assistance from Franklin Fire - Rescue, Macon County - NC Sheriff's Office, Macon County North Carolina 911, Macon County EMS, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol."

Based on current COVID-19 trends, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is planning for the federal Public Health Emergency (PHE) for COVID-19, declared under Section 319 of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act, to expire at the end of the day on May 11, 2023. Macon County Public Health will stop publishing weekly COVID updates but will continue to monitor local case levels and trends. In the event that case counts increase significantly, MCPH will notify the public and resume weekly COVID updates.
