GENERAL OUTLOOK

High pressure is expected to build into the region this weekend, lingering through the middle of next week, while the front stalls over the Southeast and keeps daily shower and thunderstorm chances around. Above normal temperatures return today and will linger through Saturday before below normal temperatures return Sunday and linger through the middle of next week.

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

Active Systems:
The Weather prediction Center is issuing advisories on Tropical Depression Debby, located inland over North Carolina.

1. Near the Lesser and Greater Antilles:
A tropical wave located over the tropical Atlantic several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands is producing widespread disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Any development of the wave should be slow to occur during the next couple of days while it moves westward across the central tropical Atlantic. Afterwards, conditions are expected to become more conducive for development, and a tropical depression could form while it approaches the Lesser Antilles by early next week. The system is then forecast to move generally west-northwestward and could approach the Greater Antilles by the middle part of next week.

* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...medium...50 percent.

Pollen levels are expected to be in the medium range (6.7 out of 12) today with Ragweed, Chenopods, and Grasses being the main culprits. Tomorrow is expected to be in the medium range (7.8 out of 12.0).

Friday, August 16, 2024 - 4:00pm to 6:00pm in the Macon County Public Library Meeting Room - Grace Johnson Art Collection Reception & Friends of the Library Fundraiser

Grace Johnson spent much of her retirement years volunteering with the Friends of the Library—her family is exhibiting some of the art she collected throughout her career which took her to Vietnam, Korea, Germany, Grenada, Iran, as well as stateside locations. Art will be on display throughout the month of August and available for bidding to raise funds for the Friends of the Library. Refreshments will be served.

8-17-24—Jim Corbett—New to The Frog, an Acoustic Guitarist with sounds from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Jim came to us with a resume of awards won, songs recorded, places he’s played and groups of which he’s been a part. Known in the Highlands area, we welcome the artistry of Jim Corbett to The Frog.
