Snow will end this morning behind a departing, fast-moving low pressure system. Temperatures will slowly rise with dry weather expected through Friday. A cold front is expected to move through the area over the weekend.

• The Board of Education met at 9am and the oath of office was administered to board members. [LINK]
• The Board of Elections met at 10am and performed a hand to eye recount in the NC Supreme Court Justice race. [LINK]
• The county commissioners met at 6pm (video will be published later today) and the oath of office was adminstered, officers were elected, and bonds for various local elected officers were examined.

HAZARDS
Hazardous weather is generally not expected in the county today. However, temperatures are low and there has been some snow flurries and showers overnight, so be careful on the roadways due to the possibility of black ice. This is not one of those mornings to treat the roads as racetracks. If you do, you could end up in a ditch or hitting another motorist.
...BLACK ICE ISSUES LIKELY THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING ACROSS MUCH OF THE WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS...
Temperatures falling through the 20s overnight, and even into the teens in many mountain locations, will cause slippery road conditions to develop due to black ice and snow covered roadways. These conditions will be possible at just about any location from the Blue Ridge Parkway west to the Tennessee border, but the worst conditions will be in the Tennessee border counties that experienced light accumulating snow over the past 24 hours.
Temperatures will rise very slowly on Tuesday, with many mountain locations remaining at or below the freezing mark through noon. Black ice conditions will likely persist throughout the morning hours and may linger well into the afternoon along the higher elevations, near the immediate Tennessee border, and in shaded locations.
Use caution if driving in the North Carolina mountain overnight through Tuesday, especially at the higher elevations and nearer the Tennessee border. Allow extra travel time and be on the lookout for ice and snow covered roadways.
