Northwest flow will continue to usher in extremely cold air for Christmas Day. Snow showers will persist in the mountains due to the northwest flow with a few flurries possible outside of the mountains. Dry high pressure will build in and persist over the weekend, with another cold front arriving early next week.

Late yesterday afternoon, the rain turned to snow and many motorists had trouble staying on the roadways and either slid off the roadways or became involved in accidents. One motorist lost control of their vehicle and hit a Franklin Police Department cruiser. It was occupied at the time, but the officer and the other driver were okay. [LINK]

HAZARDS
We had some snow late yesterday afternoon into the evening and most roadways became treacherous for a bit until the NCDOT could get the main raods clear. Roads will still be slick in places and where the NCDOT has not been able to clear the roads or apply salt, brine, and sand. If you must get out and travel today, please do so with extreme caution. Several weather advidories are in effect today, with some of the expiring at 6am. It will be frigid cold out there today and tonight, so if you're outside please dress accordingly. Be safe.

* WHAT...For the Winter Storm Warning, heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches. For the Winter Weather Advisory, snow. Additional snow accumulations mainly less than an inch, but up to two inches in spots. For the Wind Chill Advisory, very cold wind chills. Wind chills will be as low as 15 below zero.
