OUTLOOK

A stagnant pattern will result in continued typical midsummer weather over the next few days. A developing upper trough and associated cold front are expected to enhance chances for mainly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms from midweek through the start of the weekend.

Today

Widespread fog this morning. Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 4pm. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with highs ranging from the mid-70s in the higher elevations to the mid-80s in the lower elevations. Light and variable winds. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy fog after 1am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with lows in the 60s. Calm winds. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday

Showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Highs ranging from the mid-70s in the higher elevations to the mid-80s in the lower elevations. Light winds out of the southwest. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday Night

Showers and thunderstorms likely before 4am, then a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with lows in the 60s. Calm winds. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday

Showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon. Highs ranging from near 70s in the higher elevations to near 80 in the lower elevations. Calm winds in the morning increasing to come out of the west 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Thursday Night

Showers and thunderstorms before 2am, then a chance of showers. Lows in the 60s. Chance of precipitation is 80%.


Hazards

Scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms are forecast across the area. Some storms could be strong to briefly severe with strong winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall as the primary threats.

Begin COVID-19 Update




Here are some numbers from the CDC, the NCDHHS, and the Johns Hopkins Dashboard. Macon Media prefers the Johns Hopkins Dashboard because the counts include those non-residents that are left out of the CDC and NCDHHS numbers.

The CDC website [LINK] reports 112,713 people in North Carolina are infected, 1,785 have died, and infections are widespread, the NCDHHS website [LINK] reports 114,338 confirmed cases from 1,635,476 targeted tests, and 1,169 hospitalized and 1,790 deaths in the state. The Johns Hopkins Dashboard [LINK] reports 114,916 people infected and 1,838 deaths.
