LOCAL NEWS


A public hearing was held yesterday morning for an application by Angel Medical Center for  Certificate of Need for a new hospital to be located near the intersection of the Sylva Road (US-441) and Hunnicut Road. Video is available on the blog. [LINK]

LOCAL OUTLOOK

A low-pressure system will bring widespread heavy rainfall to the area through early Thursday. Drying high pressure will then briefly build back in behind the low to end the work week. A wet cold front will approach the area late Friday and impact the forecast area over the weekend.

TODAY Foggy and Rainy, with Heavy Rain Expected

Cloudy and rainy with areas of fog in the morning and a chance of patchy fog all day. Temperatures will remain near steady in the lower 50s. Winds will be from the northeast early, then from the northwest in the afternoon. 100% chance of rain with rainfall accumulations between 1 and 2 inches possible. There is a chance of thunderstorms today, mainly between 10 am and 5 pm with the greatest chance (30% to 50%) around noon.

TONIGHT

Cloudy with patchy fog expected before midnight, then widespread fog after midnight. Lows near 40 and winds 5 to 10 mph from the south before midnight, then from the east after midnight. 60% chance of rain, mainly before 3 am.



THURSDAY

Mostly cloudy with highs ranging from the lower 40s in the higher elevations and the upper 40s in the lower elevations. Winds out of the southeast.

THURSDAY NIGHT

Mostly cloudy with lows in the lower 30s in the higher elevations and the upper 30s in the lower elevations. Winds 5 to 10 mph out of the south.



FRIDAY

Mostly cloudy with highs ranging from the lower 50s to the mid-50s and a 40% chance of rain in the afternoon.

FRIDAY NIGHT

Cloudy with lows ranging from the upper 30s to the mid-40s and a 70% chance of rain.

HAZARDS

Areas of patchy dense fog are possible this morning. Heavy rain is expected today.
Please use your headlights all day so other motorists can see you and increase the distance you follow other motorists and travel a little slower so you can be careful of water ponding or running across the roadways so you can avoid hydroplaning.

On January 1, 2017, the Syringe Exchange Program of Franklin began operating a comprehensive harm reduction program to address the opioid epidemic that is impacting western NC. Opioid overdose reversal kits including naloxone are available free of charge.
