LOCAL NEWS

Early Voting

Early voting ended yesterday at 1 pm. A total of 147 voted in the Franklin municipal races and 36 voted in the Highlands municipal races.

Tuesday, November 7th is Election Day

Voters who live within the City limits and that are registered to vote can go to the polls on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, from 6:30am-7:30pm. On Election Day, The Town of Franklin voters will go to the Town Hall to vote, and the Town of Highlands voters will go to the Highlands Civic Center to vote. There will be NO VOTING at the Macon County Courthouse on Election Day, voters must go to the polls to vote. Canvass Day will be November 17, 2017, at 11:00.

LOCAL OUTLOOK

Temperatures will remain above normal through the first part of the work week as weak high pressure lingers to our northeast. Another cold front will approach from the northwest on Monday and move across the region late Monday and into Tuesday bringing thunderstorms, heavy rains with it and then cooler air for the second half of the work week.

For Monday, Monday night, and Tuesday thunderstorms are expected. The main threats should be locally heavy rain that could cause isolated flooding, mainly Monday night or Tuesday. The strongest storms also could have outflow winds up to about 40 mph, mainly on Monday or Tuesday.

For the North Atlantic...The Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

1. An elongated low-pressure area centered about 850 miles east-southeast of Bermuda continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms. This low could acquire some tropical or subtropical characteristics as it moves to the north-northeast over the central Atlantic through this weekend into the middle of next week.

* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...30 percent.

On January 1, 2017, the Syringe Exchange Program of Franklin began operating a comprehensive harm reduction program to address the opioid epidemic that is impacting western NC.
