A year ago today, we were in the middle of the worst fire season Macon County has experienced in over 50 years. Several thousand acres had burned in over a dozen fires and the biggest one yet, the Tellico Fire was growing at an alarming pace. Visibility was often less than a quarter of a mile due to the smoke. The Franklin Panthers Band appearance in the Veterans Day Parade was canceled, but the event went on anyway. When the parade took place, you could barely see from the courthouse to the old Post Office on Main Street. A video of the parade is embedded below.

LOCAL OUTLOOK
Cold Canadian high pressure will shift east and allow a weak frontal system to cross the area Sunday night. Cool and dry conditions will persist into early next week as another area of high pressure lingers over the area. A general warming trend will begin by Wednesday and continue through Friday.

1. A non-tropical area of low pressure is forecast to form late this weekend or early next week a few hundred miles south-southwest of the Azores. This low could acquire some subtropical characteristics by the middle of next week while it moves generally northeastward.
