2017 Municipal Election Preliminary Results
Mayor

Town Council (Top Three will be seated)
236 – Barbara McRae (incumbent)
217 – David Culpepper
137 – Billy Mashburn (incumbent, deceased)
121 – Angela Moore
104 – JimBo Ledford
93 – Greg Raby
7 - Write-In
Billy Mashburn's seat will be declared vacant, and the Town Council will appoint someone to fill the seat. According to the Board of Elections, that person will have to run again in the next Municipal Election.
In the Highlands races, there were no challenges, so all the incumbents won.
Canvass Day for this election will be November 17, 2017, at 11:00 am.

LOCAL OUTLOOK
A series of low-pressure systems will move along a slow moving cold front through Thursday keeping the weather in our region unsettled. Expect cold air to filter into our area into late week, dropping temperatures well below average through next weekend. Another system will approach the area by early next week.

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical Storm Rina, located several hundred miles south-southeast of Cape Race, Newfoundland.
Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 5 days.
