Busy Day Linkfest

I've got over 6 hours of video from the last two budget meetings of the Macon County Commissioners to process, and I won't be able to blog or tweet as much as I usually do, so I'm going to post a few links of interesting stuff I've found that might be interesting to you while I edit video and give my laptop all the extra clock cycles it needs...


Last night, WLOS paid a visit to franklin to report on a couple of child molesters being sent away for a long, long time. I happened to see the satellite truck at the Court House while I was on my way to the County Commissioners budget meeting, and took a couple of photos and posted to TwitPic, here and here. Randy's Right has an interesting article about Glenn Beck selling out to Freedom Works. [Read it]


I've personally had a bad couple of run-ins with Freedom Works, mainly at the local level where their leader has no interest in coalition building. I've had reports of the same thing happening to other people who tried to organize local Tea Parties only to find that the local Freedom Works group ready to destroy them. Randy's article got me to thinking, and looking for other article and videos.

Notice how Nancy squirms uncomfortably when she tries to pretend that she is a Christian, or a follower of Christ? Those of us who are can recognize that she is lying and knows that it is wrong to do so. She is being convicted by the Holy Spirit. We should keep her in our prayers. Wouldn't it be wonderful if she came to be saved? Just think how much good she could do. Think about how screamingly mad the progressives would be at her?

The Baron at Gates of Vienna has an excellent analysis of the actions of the G20 and IMF to temporarily stave off an economic collapse and rise in inflation. I particularly like his analogy to the Firefly episode, "Out of Gas."

I wonder when, if ever, that these "leaders" will realize that they cannot help the economies of the world by standing on it's fuel line by their socialist policies that discourage economic activity in the first place.

Banned at Little Green Footballs What Took So Long?

The comment that got me banned, and the countdown to being banned...


I have the distinct pleasure and honor (pleasure, mostly) of having been banned from commenting at Little Green Footballs this morning for noting that LGF is becoming indistinguishable from Daily Kos and the Democratic Underground. Does Sharmuta even know what a fascist is? Or is that just a knee-jerk response to a dissenting opinion that is so often used by lefties and the followers of Ron Paul?


Why does Charles Johnson continue to play these silly little games that do nothing but expose himself as infantile? Here is my commentary from November 2008 when he excommunicated (or is that the issuance of a fatwa?) against Robert Spencer.

Group With Ties To Terrorism Served Summons Onstage At Banquet

Unfortunately for the guests at tonight’s banquet, events have not proceeded as planned. A few days ago David Yerushalmi filed a federal civil complaint alleging criminal fraud and racketeering against CAIR. The alleged fraudulent behavior stems from CAIR’s advertising the services of Morris Days as an attorney at the local CAIR office in Herndon, Virginia. Mr. Days was billed as an advisor and counsel who could provide legal services to members of CAIR in need of help.

According to the complaint, not only did Mr. Days fail to provide legal services as requested and paid for, he was not even an attorney. The complaint asserts that when CAIR found out about the problem, the organization covered the situation up, even going to the extreme of denying any direct relationship with Morris Days. Several clients of CAIR were referred to David Yerushalmi, whose law office put together the civil complaint and filed it in federal court.

Gates of Vienna: Four Years of Excellence in Blogging

One of my favorite blogs, Gates of Vienna, is celebrating their fourth blogiversary today, and the original focus of the blog still hold true to this day:

Frequent contributor Fjordman has given detailed analysis of the situation in Norway, Europe and other areas that have piqued his attentions.

The community of commenters over there is one of intelligent and erudite conversation, no doubt inspired by the conduct of the Baron and Dymphna. I look forward to the next four years of output from that magnificent duo.

On 14 Centuries of War Against European Civilization

“The Jihad, the Islamic so-called Holy War, has been a fact of life in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Near and Middle East for more than 1300 years, but this is the first history of the Muslim wars in Europe ever to be published. Hundreds of books, however, have appeared on its Christian counterpart, the Crusades, to which the Jihad is often compared, although they lasted less than two hundred years and unlike the Jihad, which is universal, were largely but not completely confined to the Holy Land. Moreover, the Crusades have been over for more than 700 years, while a Jihad is still going on in the world. The Jihad has been the most unrecorded and disregarded major event of history. It has, in fact, been largely ignored. For instance, the Encyclopaedia Britannica gives the Crusades eighty times more space than the Jihad.”The above quote is from Paul Fregosi’s book Jihad in the West from 1998. Mr. Fregosi found that his book about the history of Islamic Holy War in Europe from the 7th to the 20th centuries was difficult to get published in the mid-1990s, when publishers had the Salman Rushdie case in fresh memory.

A few years later, perhaps the most comprehensive and scholarly book on the subject to date, The Legacy of Jihad, was published by Andrew G. Bostom. He has written about what he calls “America’s First War on Terror.” Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, then serving as American ambassadors to France and Britain, respectively, met in 1786 in London with the Tripolitan Ambassador to Britain, Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja. These future American presidents were attempting to negotiate a peace treaty which would spare the United States the ravages of Jihad piracy — murder and enslavement emanating from the so-called Barbary States of North Africa, corresponding to modern Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya.Bostom notes that “an aggressive jihad was already being waged against the United States almost 200 years prior to America becoming a dominant international power in the Middle East.” Israel has nothing to do with it. The Barbary Jihad piracy had been going on since the earliest Arab-Islamic expansion in the 7th and 8th centuries.

The Danish Intifada (updated with video and links)

An article appeared last night in Jyllands-Posten about the riots that have been going on for the last four or five days in Denmark. Cars and schools have been set ablaze, and barricades — actual barricades — have appeared in the streets. Is this 1968 all over again?

The article refers to the autonomer of Ungdomshuset, but I assumed that Muslims must be involved too, since Gellerup (a predominantly Muslim suburb of Århus) is mentioned.

The violence is also being billed as a response to the republication of the Motoons over the last few days, but the first cars were burning before the death-plot against Kurt Westergaard was publicly revealed and the plotters were arrested.

Charles Johnson, Following Rather?

So how well does the Dan Rather analogy apply to Charles Johnson and Little Green Footballs?

Some aspects of Mr. Rather’s situation seem quite apt. Consider what the The New York Times wrote in the wake of Rathergate, after CBS’ investigative panel issued its report:

Over the next week or so, CBS News issued a number of press statements and “CBS Evening News” reports that staunchly defended the Sept. 8 segment despite increasingly strong indications that the reporting for the segment was flawed. The panel finds that these statements and reports contained numerous misstatements and inaccuracies. Moreover, the panel finds that once serious questions were raised, the defense of the segment became more rigid and emphatic.

But other aspects of the CBS debacle differ from the LGF situation. LGF has no Mary Mapes to take the fall for any errors. There is no corporate board which can ease Mr. Johnson out when he becomes embarrassing. He may suffer an attrition of traffic over the long haul, but it’s also possible that his popularity is independent of any fidelity to the truth, and that he will continue to flourish.

So the analogy, though instructive, is incomplete. This leaves open the possibility of a different denouement than emerged from the whole sordid mess at CBS.

What are the options for Charles Johnson, or for any other prominent blogger who makes significant factual errors?

I see the same three possibilities that faced Dan Rather when the forged Killian memos were exposed:

1.		Acknowledge the errors and accept responsibility for them, even though they were committed by subordinates. This was not the road taken by Mr. Rather.
2.		The infamous “fake but accurate” defense, which acknowledges that the “facts” were bogus, but asserts the underlying truth of the accusations. Dan Rather attempted this strategy, but it never gained any real traction, not even in the MSM.
3.		Stonewalling. This was the method most favored by Mr. Rather, and which he persists in to this day, as witnessed by his lawsuit against CBS.

So far Charles Johnson has preferred option #3, failing to take up any of the suggested corrections posted here yesterday.

But I’m optimistic that this situation might change. After all, Mr. Johnson gained a well-deserved reputation for ferreting out the truth, and letting the chips fall where they may.

This has been a sad affair, and should be a cautionary tale for the rest of us interested in ferreting out the truth of things. Well, except for those of us who are gods, and don't make mistakes.

I'd rather see the counterjihad movement return to counterjihadi activities, and the Baron, Dymphna, Fjordman, Pamela, and Christine are among the very best we have. I'm sorry if I left anyone out, these are the guys I know best.

On October 18 and 19, over 70 organizations and individuals joined together in the European and Flemish Parliaments to create a European network of activists from 14 nations to resist the increasing Islamisation of their countries. Keynote speakers included Bat Ye’or, author of Eurabia and Dhimmitude and Robert Spencer, author of Religion of Peace, Why Christianity is and Islam Isn’t. Belgians Arrest Anti-Jihadi Protesters

Protesters sought to use the Sept. 11 anniversary to point out that Islam threatens democracy and the rule of law in Europe.The demonstration was initially planned by Stop Islamization of Europe, a loose alliance with roots in Germany, Britain and Denmark, which had predicted that 20,000 people would come to Brussels from all over Europe.Brussels Mayor Freddy Thielemans banned the protest last month, calling SIOE an inflammatory group and its proposed
demonstration a threat to public order. An appeals court upheld the ban Aug. 29.

Only 200 or so protesters showed up Tuesday for a protest lasting only 30 minutes. The demonstrators faced more than 100 police, backed up by water cannons and helicopters, who closed off streets around the EU headquarters.

The Battle Against 21st Century Communism

Fjordman is blogging at the Gates of Vienna again, so go read what he has to say on a series of subjects near and dear to my heart, Defending Liberty and Resisting Oppression:

Perhaps the new frontier of liberty in the 21st century consists of
battling for national sovereignty in legislation, for a nation’s right to decide
how much immigration it wants to accept, if any, and the fight against the
imposition of quotas, hate speech laws, hate crime legislation and other threats

yardstick against which liberty should always be measured.

And a Supporting Comment led me to this wonderful observation:

The original strategy to destroy America, employed by the Frankfort School,
came from Italian Communist Antonio Gramsci who realized that in order to
achieve a Socialist victory, cultural institutions would have to be infiltrated
and subverted. Gramsci realized that America, steeped in traditions of freedom
and liberty, would never to succumb to a frontal assault and its workers were
too busy accumulating capital to allow themselves to be used as cannon fodder
for a bloody revolution.

The Frankfort School would patent
the familiar "Critical Theory" which was accurately defined by a student as the
"essentially destructive criticism of all the main elements of Western culture,
including Christianity, capitalism, authority, the family, patriarchy,
hierarchy, morality, tradition, sexual restraint, loyalty, patriotism,
nationalism, heredity, ethnocentrism, convention, and conservatism." Under
Critical Theory, anything emanating from the west is to be libeled and attacked
over and over again while at the same time, anything emerging from a
"progressive" country or group is to be applauded including the murder of over
100 million people. All blame for societal and economic ills are to be shifted
to the west.
The saturating drumbeat of Critical Theory would lead to
"Cultural Pessimism" which is when a person grows to loathe the society, which
nurtured him and provided him unprecedented levels of success. This describes
the attitude of so many leftists living in comfort and safety yet viewing
America, the society that made their lifestyle possible, with hatred and
contempt. I am amazed by the degree in which both Critical Theory and Cultural
Pessimism has been internalized by all of us.

And the end of the article:

The forth horseman, Brandeis professor Herbert Marcuse, was the pied piper of the sixties as he fostered the development of, as Buchanan points out, "radical youth, feminists, black militants, homosexuals, the alienated, the asocial, Third World revolutionaries, all the angry voices of the persecuted 'victims' of the West." In "Eros and Civilization" Marcuse encouraged sex and drugs and introduced "polymorphous perversity" where all moral and cultural order is rejected. Marcuse coined the slogan "Make love not war" and was a cult figure on College campuses. His book "i" advocates educational dictatorship. He calls for "Repressive Tolerance" which means "intolerance against movements from the right, and toleration of movements from the left." When the left speaks of tolerance, this is what they mean.

The Frankfurt School would mainstream the dicktat of the Moscow Central Committee laid down in 1943. This declaration, right from the horse's mouth, illustrates exactly what were up against:

"Members and front organizations must continually embarrass, discredit and degrade our critics. When obstructionists become too irritating, label them as fascist, or Nazi or anti-Semitic...The association will, after enough repetition, become 'fact' in the public mind."

The last last paragraph explains nearly the whole of tactics used by the left in their arguments.
