Local News and Weather Briefing for Saturday, January 14, 2023

This is a truncated news and weather briefing. The headline for yesterday was the rapid deterioration of road conditions due to snow falling and below freezing temperatures. Several accidents occured ion the late afternoon into the evening hours. NCDOT trucks have worked all night attempting to keep the main arteries navigable.

In other local news, there was a brief pursuit by the Macon County Sheriff's Office in the Cartoogechaye community that was ended by spike-strips employed by the Franklin Police Department at Gibson Cove Road. Two individuals were taken into custody.

A student on an East Franklin Elementary School Bus over a conversation about hunting and a firearm and reported a potential threat. An investigation detemined that there was no threat.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office posted an update on Facebook regarding their investigation into a report of a teacher taping a student to a chair.

GENERAL OUTLOOK

High pressure will build in today and through the weekend. Strong winds will bring heavy snow to northwest-facing slopes of the North Carolina mountains. Another round of precipitation is expected in the area on Tuesday. High pressure briefly returns on Wednesday ahead of another possible round of rain to close out the week.
