"The unemployment rate, as you know, this year has come down very, very slowly, but it's come down nonetheless," Romney told supporters in Abingdon. "The reason it's come down this year is primarily due to the fact that more and more people have just stopped looking for work."
Outrageous real estate assessments are not unique to Augusta County. Neighboring Bath County reassessed in April 2008 and had a revolt by citizens that resulted in terminating the appraisal company and doing away with the overly-inflated appraisals.
Gloucester County also had a tax revolt by its citizens after outrageous assessments in 2005 resulted in the Board of Supervisors passing by only one vote an agreement to pay the appraisal company.
House of Delegates majority Republicans refused Wednesday to seat a Democrat who narrowly won a special House election hours earlier in Alexandria.
The State Board of Elections certified Charniele L. Herring as the winner of Tuesday's 46th House District race by 16 votes out of 2,679 cast.
Republicans, however, voted 54-41 against seating Herring pending a recount sought by defeated Republican Joe Murray.
Former Democratic Caucus chairman Brian J. Moran resigned Dec. 12 to run full time for governor, leaving Jan. 13 as the only date available for Gov. Timothy M. Kaine to set the special election.
From my persusal of the Republican Party of Virginia...they seem to be closer connected to the conservative bloggers than the NCGOP, which seems to be mainly a center of the state club...
