1876: The Great Backerganj, also known as the Bengal cyclone of 1876 struck Bangladesh, then part of the province of Bengal in British India on this day.
A maximum wind speed of 137 mph along with a storm surge of 10 to 45 feet inundated the coastal region. This storm likely caused at least 200,000 deaths along with displacing many others. It is listed as the 6th most deadly tropical cyclone in world history.

2016: The 2016 Wildfires in Macon County and western North Carolina were being fought by the USFS, the NCFS, and local volunteer fire departments. The Macon MEdia daily weather briefing started as a result of these fires as a way to keep Maconians informed on the fire situation the efforts of these organizations to stop their spread and contain them.
