Portion of Clyde Street to be Closed for Waterline Construction From January 2nd to Jan 5th, 2024

TRAFFIC ALERT – WATAUGA STREET CLOSURE JANUARY 2 - 5

Work is continuing on the section of the Clyde Street Waterline Improvement Project during the week of January 2 through January 5, 2024. (see map in blue) The area in front of East Franklin Elementary School will be closed to all traffic from Lakeside Drive to Randolph Street during this time.  Individuals on Watauga Street above Randolph Street, Clyde Street, Janelle Street and Grandview Drive, may enter and exit using Town Mountain Drive or Grandview Drive or Dan Street.  

There will be signage in place indicating the street closure and detours. There will be workers in the street at various times so please be aware of your surroundings.

Maple Street to be Closed August 24th and 25th to Northbound (Downhill) Traffic During Sidewalk Construction

Lane Closure – Maple Street – for Sidewalk Installation

The Town of Franklin will have a contractor who will be working on the sidewalk on Maple Street beginning at 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24 and Thursday, August 25, 2022. The sidewalk is on the downhill side, and traffic can travel up Maple Street toward the roundabout, but traffic will not be allowed to come down the hill. Traffic signs will be in place to re-route traffic to avoid the area during this process.

Flood Repair Closing N.C. 106 Overnight Marked detour directs traffic around construction work

HIGHLANDS – A section of N.C. 106 west of Highlands will undergo repairs requiring an overnight closure from 7 p.m. on Sunday Aug. 30, until 9 a.m. on Monday.

N.C. Department of Transportation crews will replace a culvert near Crystal Drive where flood water overflowed and damaged the structure. High water on N.C. 106 (Dillard Road) has created dangerous driving conditions at this location.

The new culvert features a larger, 60-inch pipe, which will allow for more water to flow under the road and reduce the possibility of high water on the driving surface.

Crews will close the highway at Turtle Pond Road on the west side of the project, and across from Tate Landscaping on the eastern side on Sunday. Residents on three local roads will have overnight access under a flagging operation.

A marked detour of nine miles from the western closure location to Highlands will direct eastbound traffic to Turtle Pond Road, then U.S. 64 East to Highlands — then back to N.C. 106 if necessary. Westbound traffic will use the same roads in reverse order.

Transportation officials remind drivers to plan ahead and obey all posted signs.
