Commentary

The Gathering of Eagles on March 17, 2007 marked a turning point in domestic politics. That is the day veterans, family members, conservatives and patriots stood up and said:



"Enough! We will not take this anymore. Anytime you have a public march, we will be there. We will protect the monuments to our national heroes from vandalism. We will be there to remind you that your days of unfettered media access are over!"

Now that the anti-American war protesters have taken to committing acts of terrorism against military recruiters...we will oppose that, too.

Eagles Up! A Video Report

I've been searching for videos of yesterday and Friday's activities by the latest Gathering of Eagles event, Eagles Up!

This Ain't Hell provides an After Action report of his observations of Winter Soldier II:

I’ve been ruminating how I would close out this weekend after focusing on Winter Soldier for the last few days. I thought a point-by-point refutation of the testimony, but I figured that’d be disingenuous of me, since the testimony lacked context - there were no dates or times or places (other than general references) or even participants in some cases. So, just like the participants, I can only give general impressions - only I’ll do it without playing to the applause.

First, my personal experience with the IVAW/Veterans for Peace and the other and sundry people was professional. I wasn’t especially pleased that I was escorted everywhere I went, or that we spent the day surrounded by security people, or that our blogs were being monitored - however, it does lend what I wrote a measure of credibility. But there were news outlets like the Guardian and al Jazeera wandering around without security and writing what they want. I’ll grant that my readership is somewhat less than theirs, but the product I created was under much more scrutiny while it was being released to the public.

The Sniper also had good coverage.

And Obiter Dictum notes the changing nature of many of the stories from participants at the Gathering of Traitors, otherwise known as Winter Soldier II.

I enjoyed watching the streaming coverage, reading the reports as they came in, and listening to the participants as they shared their stories, and hope I can participate at the next event.

**update** 3.29pm Gateway Pundit has some good news for the conservative counter-protest movement...a group of counter protestors manage to keep an anti-war crowd from shutting down a recruiting center in Tacoma, Washington! Be sure to follow the link over there to see the video.

West Carolina Report For Sept 16

I've updated West Carolina Report for today, and it was a real struggle because my phoneline was acting up, and I was surfing at between 22k and 34k...so the connection kept dropping on me. Just think, I only live 4 miles outside of Franklin, imagine how bad it must be at my childhood home 12 miles from town!

Eagles v Traitors in DC

This is the weekend culmination of the Surge in September, with Gathering of Eagles III: Operation Eagle Justice.




The Eagles are back in DC to protect our National Monuments from vandalizing traitors, and Michelle Malkin has been liveblogging the event.

Update 5:00pm Eastern. Well, they came, they spewed, they cursed. Several thousand Soros marchers descended on the Capitol yelling “Fuck Bush” and “Fuck you” at Gold Star Families. As Capitol Hill police arrested the “die-in” participants, young peaceniks shouted “What does a pig look like? The Capitol police” and “Oink! Oink! Oink.” Others shrieked about “Fascism!” and gleefully performed “Sieg Heil” salutes. We’ll have video from the midst of the moonbats. Across from Taft Park, some anti-American demonstrators waving a large, upside-down American flag and pulling a coffin with Army boots got in a scuffle with Eagles. We’ll have that video of that as well.
