AS I write, Russian tanks grind into a brave and isolated democratic state.

Assuming that the world's attention would focus on Beijing, Moscow stage-managed an elaborate act of aggression against Georgia.

But the world has changed since Soviet tanks rolled unchallenged into Afghanistan at Christmastime 29 years ago. Global communications now spotlight aggression instantly.

Yesterday, the world didn't watch the Olympic opening ceremonies (the Chinese must be furious at the Russians). Instead, we saw images of Soviet - sorry, I meant Russian - aircraft pounding Georgian territory as Russian armor rolled over the Caucasus Mountains.

The Kremlin is determined to break Georgia's will - and keep the feisty republic out of NATO.

The Russian war aim in Georgia, inasmuch as it may be discerned after a bare 48 hours of full combat, appears to be what I said it likely is: “the Russians [will] fully occupy South Ossetia, along with the other secessionist region of Georgia, Abkhazia; declare them both independent or somehow annexed; and thoroughly punish the Georgians with a countrywide air campaign targeting what meager infrastructure there is.” As if to swiftly confirm the hypothesis, we see today that the Abkhazians have joined the war, thus opening a second front against the Georgians. Quite nearly everything that can go wrong for the Caucasian republic has: Georgian forces have been fully ejected from South Ossetia; Russian troops are landing on the Abkhaz coast (it’s unclear whether at Sukhumi or Ochamchira); Russian air power is hitting strategic targets throughout Georgia; and at this writing — just after dawn in the Caucasus — a general Russian offensive may be underway.

Georgia has said that Russian aircraft bombed the an airport in the capital Tbilisi, just hours after Georgia's parliament approved a decree saying the country is in a "state of war".

Moscow has dismissed Tbilisi's calls for an immediate ceasefire as the fighting continued to spread across Georgia and more Russian tanks rolled into the breakaway region of South Ossetia.

"Russian jet fighters have dropped three bombs on Tbilisi's airport," Shota Utiashvili, the head of the Georgian interior ministry's information department, told the Reuters news agency on Sunday.

Al Jazeera's Alan Fisher, reporting from Tbilisi, confirmed that three loud explosions had been heard from the direction of the airport.

BAGHDAD -- The commander of the 2,000 Georgian troops in Iraq said Saturday that his soldiers would leave the country to join the fight against Russia over a separatist Georgian republic.

Though relatively small in number, the Georgians have made up the third-largest force of foreign troops in Iraq, behind the United States and Britain. They mostly have been deployed to bolster security along the border with Iran, where U.S. officials say bombs that cause most American troop deaths are smuggled into the country.

RUSSIAN forces have taken control of the main city in South Ossetia, Tskhinvali, Georgian interior ministry spokesman Shota Utiashvili told AFP today.
Earlier, media reports said Russian warships had set up a sea blockade to prevent arms and other military supplies from reaching Georgia, quoting a source in the Russian naval command.

"Our navy sailors have been assigned the task of preventing arms and other military supplies from reaching Georgia by sea,'' the source said.

The Russian Navy has confirmed that a section of its Black Sea Fleet is en route to the Georgian coastline. The task force includes a missile cruiser. Military officials insist the operation is to help refugees and is not part of an operation to blockade Georgia.

KIEV, Ukraine - Ukraine warned Russia on Sunday it could bar Russian navy ships from returning to their base in the Crimea because of their deployment to Georgia's coast.

Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said the deployment of a Russian naval squadron to Georgia's Black sea coast has the potential of drawing Ukraine into the conflict.

"In order to prevent the circumstances in which Ukraine could be drawn into a military conflict ... Ukraine reserves the right to bar ships which may take part in these actions from returning to the Ukrainian territory until the conflict is solved," said the statement which was posted on the ministry's Web site.

The Collapsing Infrastructure of Africa

Over half a century of poor maintenance and neglect, the power grid of the Central African Republic has collapsed. The capital has gone dark. Two nearby hydroelectric power stations, which provide most of the nation's electricity, have failed from years of neglect. The government is calling on foreign aid donors to fly in generators for hospitals and other essential services. Generators that have been brought in previously have not been maintained, and wear out quickly. This is not an exceptional event, for colonial era infrastructure, from roads to power plants, are collapsing from decades of post-independence neglect. This causes more unrest, as factions battle for a dwindling supply of resources.

It is said that a high technology infrastructure is impossible to maintain when the average IQ of a population is below 85 (in the absence of a significant market dominant minority). The average IQ of SubSaharan Africa consistently measures close to 70, or 75 at most. IQ is not enough, of course. In China, where corruption is rampant, infrastructure collapse can happen too. In Detroit, where city government corruption is a way of life, maintaining the infrastructure is a daily battle.

But if you have both low IQ and corruption--with no market dominant minority--forget about it. It is not going to happen. Build as much as you want, it will surely crumble without maintenance.

Commentary

This is a disaster that has been in the making for decades. A big part of it is that it is politically suicidal to even identify the problem given the politically motivated rhetoric of the leftists in the West. To them, there can exist no differences among men as a result of their poor choices, and that of their forbearers. There is also the need of the left to have people dependent on the government...and a ready source of people who can be convinced that the evils of the world are the responsibility of those who are successful...and they destroy the very means of their future success.

Sure, we should send aid to Africa. There is something far more powerful that we can give Africa...if they (and the lefty handmaidens of this disaster) will work to accept it.

Al Fin is correct in identifying education as the key to the rebirth of Africa. And not the kind of public education our children receive that is drenched in political rhetoric. Africa needs reading, writing, arithmetic, logic, and the hard sciences.

The world would be a better place with a free and independent Africa, one that is full of bright people. People who know how things work, how to keep them working, and even design and build new things...material and non-material.

That future is blocked by the Cult of The Big Man in Africa, and those lefties who enable them to remain in power...and live as parasites on our goodwill, and the suffering of Africans.

Georgia has been advancing steadily toward having a more stable form of government, and has been making overtures about joining NATO, and even the EU. Here is a report from FOX:

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has handed his Russian counterpart, Dmitry Medvedev, a victory over the "siloviki" in Russia. And if Medvedev is able to take advantage of the fruits of this victory, the consequences will be significant not so much for Tbilisi as for Moscow.

So, why is this a victory over the siloviki -- those in the Russian ruling elite with close ties to the state security organs? Because there is no way the regime in South Ossetia can be in any sense called "separatist." Who there is a separatist? The head of the local KGB, Anatoly Baranov, used to head the Federal Security Service (FSB) in the Russian Republic of Mordovia. The head of the South Ossetian Interior Ministry, Mikhail Mindzayev, served in the Interior Ministry of Russia's North Ossetia. The South Ossetian "defense minister," Vasily Lunev, used to be military commissar in Perm Oblast, and the secretary of South Ossetia's Security Council, Anatoly Barankevich, is a former deputy military commissar of Stavropol Krai. So who exactly is a separatist in this government? South Ossetian "prime minister" Yury Morozov?

However, alas, I also cannot say this regime is "pro-Russian." On the contrary, all the recent actions of Eduard Kokoity, the leader of the breakaway South Ossetian government, have run counter to the interests of Russia in the Caucasus -- beginning with his embarrassing Russia in the eyes of the international community and ending with his ratcheting up the tensions in the very region where Russia might begin to come undone. South Ossetia is not a territory, not a country, not a regime. It is a joint venture of siloviki generals and Ossetian bandits for making money in a conflict with Georgia. For me, the most surprising thing in this entire story is the complete lack of any strategic goals on the part of the South Ossetians.

Remember the Clinton campaign ad in US Democratic primary about the 3 a.m. call in the White House. What an irony that the Russian attack on Georgia came almost at about that time. Clinton is no longer in the race but an international crisis has erupted that will have far reaching consequences and that will not subside quietly and on its own. What is at stake here is a post cold war world order. At stake is the credibility of NATO as a military alliance, the U.S. as a credible ally and, for better or for worse, the EU’s survival. One has to understand, that most people from Eastern and Central Europe joined the EU not so much because of economic reasons – many of the countries had much freer and open economies then we have now under Brussels – but because it was hoped that the EU offers security against Russia. If NATO, America and the EU can/will not pressure Russia into ending its aggression against Georgia, the EU will lose its ultimate value in the eyes of Eastern Europeans. It will have proved that EU’s major countries are so spineless, willfulness and badly dependant of Russian gas and oil that they will allow Russia impunity against all atrocities and all aggressions. If the West allows Russia to have its way with Georgia, next in line will be Ukraine and third in line will be the Baltic countries. We are once again on the firing line with backstabbers behind us. Allowing Russia to continue will invite untold mayhem into international security and global economy.

Commentary

I did not see this one coming. And I suppose that is the point of the calculation of Russia to invade while the rest of the world was focused elsewhere, on the Olympics, on Iran, on Lebanon, on Hamas. They invaded on a Friday when Congress was adjourned, and most other world legislative bodies were out for summer vacation.Perhaps their short-term objectives include a swift military action, where they can present the world with a fait acompli before any serious counter moves can be made.

As noted above, this is a critical test of NATO, EU, and whether or not the United States can be counted on to be an ally in a time of need. This is also a test by Russia to see if they can return to their age-old ambition of world domination.

Well, John Edwards has 'fessed up to what you already knew.[1] [2] [3]

John Edwards, the former Democratic presidential candidate, has admitted that he lied by denying an affair with a former aide and conceded that friends and supporters might have bought her silence.

Mr Edwards, 55, a father of three whose wife Elizabeth has terminal cancer, was recently caught by the National Enquirer magazine secretly visiting Rielle Hunter, 42, and her six-month-old baby Frances Quinn Hunter at a Beverly Hills hotel in California. This week, photographs of him holding the baby girl were published.

The bombshell was a blow to Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee, whom Mr Edwards endorsed amid much fanfare in May. Mr Obama was on his campaign plane bound for Hawaii and a week's holiday when the news broke four hours before he was expected to land.

Three New Counties Join Mumpower On Principles First

PRESS RELEASE

Republican Congressional candidate Carl Mumpower has persisted in his 'Principles First' campaign and this week was rewarded with the support of three more NC-11 counties.

Mumpower had taken an unusual step several weeks ago in suspending his campaign to create action around his party's principles. Attempted Robber Gets The Beatdown in Charlotte

CMPD Robbery Detectives are investigating an attempted robbery of the MJ Banh Mi Café. Eastway Division officers responded to the robbery call at 5:25 p.m., on August 4, 2008. The café owners and the suspect, Dung Quoc Luong, were the only people inside the store at the time of the attempted robbery. When the officers arrived, they found the Luong lying on the floor after having been subdued by the café owner.Initial indications are that the suspect demanded money from the café owner by brandishing a large hunting knife. The victim was able to subdue the suspect and hold him until CMPD patrol officers arrived on scene. The first Eastway Division officer arrived on scene less than three minutes after the call was received.

Osama's Driver Convicted And Human Pond Scum Is Executed

GUANTANAMO BAY U.S. NAVAL BASE, Cuba (Reuters) - A military court on Wednesday convicted Osama bin Laden's driver of supporting terrorism but acquitted him on the more serious charge of conspiring with al Qaeda in the first U.S. war crimes trial since World War Two.

The trial of Yemeni captive Salim Hamdan at the remote U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba was the first full test of the controversial tribunal authorized by the Bush administration to try foreign captives on terrorism charges outside the regular U.S. court system.

The White House welcomed the conviction while human rights and civil liberties groups condemned it.

The judge scheduled a sentencing hearing for Wednesday afternoon for Hamdan, who faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.

The jurors deliberated a little over eight hours before reaching their verdict.

Illegal Alien Slime Executed

A Mexican man at the centre of an international legal dispute has been executed in Texas for the rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl in 1993.

While protesters both for and against the death penalty demonstrated outside the Huntsville Unit near Houston last night, José Medellín, 33, died after being given a lethal injection.

The execution came just before 10pm shortly after the US supreme court denied a last request for a reprieve.

Pleas for a stay came from Washington, Mexico and the international court of justice (ICJ).

Commentary

The liberal Guardian completely misses the whole point. José Medellín was human pond scum, and he deserved to die...and got a far too humane path from this life on his way to hell.

He participated in the beating,brutal gang rape, and strangling of two young girls to death in 1993.

It took 15 years to rid the world of this...person.

If you can stomach it, read this portion of the last hours of the two young lives snuffed out by José Medellín and his "friends":

While Jenny and Elizabeth were living the last few hours of their lives, Peter Cantu, Efrain Perez, Derrick Sean O'Brien, Joe Medellin and Joe's 14 year old brother were initiating a new member, Raul Villareal, into their gang, known as the Black and Whites. Raul was an acquaintance of Efrain and was not known to the other gang members. They had spent the evening drinking beer and then "jumping in" Raul. This means that the new member was required to fight every member of the gang until he passed out and then he would be accepted as a member. Testimony showed that Raul lasted through three of the members before briefly losing consciousness.

The gang continued drinking and 'shooting the breeze' for some time and then decided to leave. Two brothers who had been with them but testified that they were not in the gang left first and passed Jenny and Elizabeth, who were unknowingly walking towards their deaths. When Peter Cantu saw Jenny and Elizabeth, he thought it was a man and a woman and told the other gang members that he wanted to jump him and beat him up. He was frustrated that he had been the one who was unable to fight Raul.

The gang members ran and grabbed Elizabeth and pulled her down the incline, off of the tracks. Testimony showed that Jenny had gotten free and could have run away but returned to Elizabeth when she cried out for Jenny to help her.

For the next hour or so, these beautiful, innocent young girls were subjected to the most brutal gang rapes that most of the investigating officers had ever encountered. The confessions of the gang members that were used at trial indicated that there was never less than 2 men on each of the girls at any one time and that the girls were repeatedly raped orally, anally and vaginally for the entire hour. One of the gang members later said during the brag session that by the time he got to one of the girls, "she was loose and sloppy." One of the boys boasted of having 'virgin blood' on him.

The 14-year-old juvenile later testified that he had gone back and forth between his brother and Peter Cantu since they were the only ones there that he really knew and kept urging them to leave. He said he was told repeatedly by Peter Cantu to "get some". He raped Jennifer and was later sentenced to 40 years for aggravated sexual assault, which was the maximum sentence for a juvenile.

When the rapes finally ended, the horror was not over. The gang members took Jenny and Elizabeth from the clearing into a wooded area, leaving the juvenile behind, saying he was "too little to watch". Jenny was strangled with the belt of Sean O'Brien, with two murderers pulling, one on each side, until the belt broke. Part of the belt was left at the murder scene, the rest was found in O'Brien's home. After the belt broke, the killers used her own shoelaces to finish their job. Medellin later complained that "the bitch wouldn't die" and that it would have been "easier with a gun". Elizabeth was also strangled with her shoelaces, after crying and begging the gang members not to kill them; bargaining, offering to give them her phone number so they could get together again.

The medical examiner testified that Elizabeth's two front teeth were knocked out of her brutalized mouth before she died and that two of Jennifer's ribs were broken after she had died. Testimony showed that the girls' bodies were kicked and their necks were stomped on after the strangulations in order to "make sure that they were really dead."

More than 375 insurgents and al Qaeda operatives have been captured during the first week of Operation Omens of Prosperity in Diyala province. Six senior al Qaeda in Iraqi leaders in the province have been captured during the province-wide operation.

The Iraqi military announced it captured 265 suspected al Qaeda fighters during operations from July 29 through Aug. 2. Five members of al Qaeda's provincial shura, or executive council, were captured during this timeframe.

Tyson Foods Says Muslim Holiday Observed Only In Shelbyville Plant

PRESS RELEASE

Labor Day Still Recognized at Tyson Foods; Union Contract Provision only at Shelbyville, TN Plant

Springdale, Arkansas – August 4, 2008 – Contrary to recent reports, Labor Day is still a holiday at Tyson Foods. This issue concerns only the plant at Shelbyville, TN. The majority of employees at the Tyson plant in Shelbyville, TN, are represented by the Retail, Wholesale and Department Stores Union (RWDSU), an American union that asked for and received Eid al-Fitr, as one of their eight paid holidays, in place of Labor Day. This applies only to the Shelbyville plant and resulted as part of the union contract negotiated last fall. This change does not apply to Tyson Foods' other 118 plants. This is not a religious accommodation, rather, it is part of a union-initiated contract demand.

This change came about as a result of union demands brought to the negotiating table, and was agreed upon by Tyson in an effort to reach a contractual agreement with the union. The contract that calls for this change was unanimously recommended by the 12-person union bargaining committee, which included three Somali employees. The contract was then overwhelmingly agreed to by 80 percent of the rank and file membership of the union at the Shelbyville plant.

The Muslim population at the Shelbyville plant is primarily composed of approximately 250 Somali employees, who are political refugees, most of whom came to the plant as a result of refugee resettlement efforts based in Nashville. They were employed at the plant through the Tennessee Department of Employment Security office.

The Shelbyville complex employs approximately 1,200 people. Approximately 1,000 workers are covered by the union agreement at Shelbyville.

Somebody must be working overtime in the PR Dept at Tyson Foods for me to receive that in my private email account...not the buffer I have on this blog. Somebody actually did their homework.


Not Impressed


Needless to say, I am not impressed. Nor will I be purchasing any Tyson Foods products because of this policy. What happens in one plant can spread to another. The religious accommodations granted (Holidays, Extra Time and Space for Prayer) to that union will be demanded by others, and what will you do if they demand the replacement of Christmas with Ramadan?

I have worked in a place where extra break time was given to Muslims for their prayer time, and the whole afternoon on Fridays...and extra time off for prayers during the month-long Ramadan Observation. The company tried to make it up to those of us who weren't Muslim by offering candy and bonuses like good little Dhimmis.They also quit decorating for Christmas because the Muslims declared those decorations to be of an offensive nature to them. Many of us of other religions left because our beliefs were not accorded the same respect, and I understand that the location is almost entirely Muslim now, and that it shuts down at noon on Fridays because there is no one to man the machines. That will be your fate.

Farewell

I have enjoyed your products over the years. Get back to me when you correct your error or kick that union out of your plant. If your non-Muslim employees had any sense, they would leave too, before they had to begin paying the Jizyah tax for not being a Muslim.

It must really suck for the Global Warming crowd that a cooling ocean will be sucking even more CO₂ out of the atmosphere over the coming years. I'll bet they haven't even thought of that. In a few more years...no amount of data-manipulation will be able to hide that from the public.

Expect to see more jiggling of the numbers as it begins to become apparent to all that Human-caused Global Warming has been the largest hoax in the history of mankind pushed upon us all by lefties, and their willing accomplices in the scientific community.

GOP Members of the 110th Congress Discover They Can Be Citizen Journalists, Too

An historic event occurred Friday...

New technologies broke a news blackout attempted by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Friday afternoon, 8/1/08, starting at 11:30 am (Eastern) Real Time News was the only window to a major event in the House of Representatives. The Democratic Party controlled-House had just voted to adjourn for a 5-week vacation without voting, or even engaging in debate, on solutions to America's energy crisis. As the Democrats went out to their gasoline-powered cars to drive to the airport to board jet fuel-powered aircraft, the House Republicans stayed on to present their All of the Above Energy Plan. Despite Speaker Nancy Pelosi removing the press from the gallery, and having lights, microphones and C-Span cameras turned off, media coverage continued, against House rules, entirely via Twitter and Qik live cell-phone video.

Thanks to Rep. John Culberson (R-TX) there was one small camera recording the events. Twitter messages alerted America to the historic events. Rep. John Shadegg (R-AZ) named the event "The New Boston Tea Party", but that was quickly changed to "The Boston Tweet Party" by the new, tech real-time media. Messages flew across the country to anyone wanting to participate, as Culberson led the Real Time Media charge sending out live messages from the House floor:

Commentary

I was under a blackout of my own, having suffered at the hand of malicious Googlebots for the 5th time in three years. I was able to continue blogging on a recently re-activated state and local issues blog and covered these events as they were happening.

I am glad to see ever more people begin to realize that they can bypass the Legacy Media and take the news directly to the consumer...and avoid the lefty Gatekeepers in the Media. Hurrah for the few Republican members who exhibited the kind of fighting spirit I was afraid had left the party when the cowards let Newt Gingrich be removed.

When are people going to follow my call, and begin broadcasting live from their local city and county government meetings? When are they going to start broadcasting live from candidate debates and campaign stops?

I already have. From a gubernatorial debate in Hendersonville to a regional radio show to a district GOP convention. I'll bet 75% of you reading this have the capability to do this without buying any additional equipment over $100. Think of it. The possibilities are only limited by your inagination and willpower.

The power of live event coverage can remove the ability of the lefty news media to "spin" the event to benefit their causes and candidates.

For my part, I plan on webcasting live all the debates between Mumpower and Shuler where I can attend. Wouldn't it be great if the same thing happened all across North Carolina, and the USA?

Tyson's Foods Drops Labor Day Holiday; Replaces it with Muslim Holiday Eid al-Fitr

America is a nation of hard working people that have used their labors to make this country the promised land for many. Untold thousands of American workers have sweated and toiled through injury and grit to make this nation the greatest nation on the face of this earth. Labor Day was created to recognize that toil. Labor Day was created to show appreciation to the American worker.

The Tyson Foods' poultry processing plant in Shelbyville, Tennessee has decided to eliminate Labor Day as a holiday. Workers at that plant will no longer have a paid day off on Labor Day, but will instead take the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr, a Muslim holiday that occurs toward the end of Ramadan, in the fall. The reason stated for this decision to eliminate Labor Day for the Muslim holiday was to accommodate the Muslim workers at the plant.

The company is focusing on the fact that the number of holidays still numbers at eight, meaning the change will not affect production, hardly considering the fact that they've eliminated an American holiday for a concession to an ideology that has declared war on The West. Rather than assimilate into the American Culture, the Muslims are expecting to be a culture apart from ours.

The Muslim holiday, Eid al-Fitr, specifically means "Festival of the Breaking of the Fast" in Arabic, and marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting.
