Mr. Padgett, (if that is your real name) I hope you realize your mistake in giving money to people supporting the local power structure. Next time, get together a few friends, form an Action Group, decide on courses of action, and delegate responsibilities.

File with local officials a permit to protest in a public area, and make up plenty of fliers to distribute to the public. Never give up, Never give in!

I wish you health, stamina, cunning, and an abundance of allies in your efforts, perhaps you should consider purchasing this guide to assist you in your efforts. It is a good beginner's manual. For more stuff in this area, Paladin Press is a good source.

Jackson County Commissioners OK Building MOratorium

SYLVA — Weighing the risk of job losses against a spike in mountainside developments, the Jackson County commissioners voted 4-1 Thursday to impose a controversial five-month moratorium on any new subdivision projects.

e-mail and phone calls that he and other officials had received showed most citizens wanted a halt called.

Chairman Brian McMahan wasn’t so sure. He cast the only negative vote, winning much of the crowd’s applause.

“I don’t think the moratorium is a tool that’s going to help us,” McMahan said. “Is there the potential that someone could lose this job? If that’s the case, I can’t support it.”

With the moratorium of six months as initially proposed, Jackson County stands to lose $72.5 million in taxable revenues and $32 million in direct labor payroll for a loss of 1,605 jobs, according to James Carland, a Western Carolina University professor of entrepreneurship. Carland prepared his report for concerned property owners opposed to the moratorium.

“These are just working people. That doesn’t include professionals,” said Sam Lupas, a Cashiers real estate agent. Carland’s report estimated that brokers, lawyers, appraisers, engineers and others could see 20 percent of their annual earnings evaporate with the moratorium.

Just from reading what is in the AC-T article, and not having read the actual resolution, I think this moratorium is paper tiger. I would think the 25-acre threshold on a moratorium would mean that a project could be broken down to fly under the radar. But this is just speculation at this time.

On a personal note, there is a subdivision going up next to the one where I work just outside of Maggie Valley, and there is only one Trackhoe and Bulldozer working, and these guys have cleared about 50 acres by themselves in about a month, so I can see where this would hurt even a small work crew. The subdivision I am working on is on really steep land, so we are having to clear it by hand, because it is too steep for equipment to work.
Most of the roads were built by loggers decades ago, and will only need a little blasting to widen for putting in the house pads this spring and summer.

The steepest slops I ever saw houses put on was in the Highlands area, where I shingled a few houses where the drop off was more than a hundred feet on several occasions, and I eventually stopped because I came close to falling off more than I could handle.

One good thing that will come out of encroachment on Private Property Rights is that it will provide an inroads for conservative activists to "activate" local conservatives and organize citizens to begin taking back their government from these Socialist Policy Decisions. A concerted effort must be made to find more suitable candidates to replace these commissioners when their seats come up for election, and repeal the restrictions that would choke off economic development.

Barring that, I would love to see an Atlas Shrugged scenario take place where the operators of the economic engine just step away nd let everything come to a halt. But, not yet. The battle is still winnable through conventional means.

The Peak Oil Myth Exposed

With most of Paul Ehrlich's dire predictions [The Population Bomb, 1968] being wrong:

Gore Funding Plan For "A New World Order"

If your employer began paying you 80 cents on the dollar, but, not to worry, the other 20 cents was going to support "good causes", thereby giving you value instead of capital, would you be pleased?

If not, you won't like what Al Gore has been quietly planning along with his Global Warming initiative. He and others are working to achieve that very thing and to bring it about in a manner which doesn't give you a vote in which values your dollars end up supporting.

Gore is quietly funding an assault on Capitalism as we know it, one that begins but doesn't end with Global Warming. That's only the model for what's coming next.

Sans news conferences and Oscar nods, it's a well-funded, grand design to re-shape, not just America, but the global economy in such a manner so as to inculcate Liberal values into the world's system of finance.

Defeated at the ballot box, it seems Gore has figured out that if he can follow, or perhaps even lead the money, he and other liberals can bring about the social and economic change they want, whether the middle class likes it, or not.

I missed an opportunity by not quitting my job to push the schedule and get it out the door before summer. I just did not anticipate the speed of his exposure as a fraud by other people.

The European Commission has published a unilateral judgement declaring that Swiss company tax law is “incompatible” with the free-trade agreement which has been in force between it and Switzerland since 1972. The Commissar for Foreign Affairs, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, claims that tax breaks for certain holding companies are equivalent to state aids and that, where these companies in fact operate throughout the EU, the tax regime should be changed. Acting under pressure from Paris and Berlin, the Commission fired an initial warning shot in September 2005, criticising the fact that holding companies enjoy tax breaks at federal level and are hardly taxed at cantonal level either. The Swiss have reacted angrily, saying that tax matters, especially the tax prerogatives of the cantons, are a matter of Swiss sovereignty and therefore not up for discussion.

This was one of the best episodes so far in the series, easily qualifying for my top ten episodes so far. It was overtly political, and the storyline very good. I agree with Chief Tyrol's actions concerning the working conditions on the Tylium Refinery.
I also agree with Admiral Adama's actions, even to putting Cally up against a wall and having her shot. I am afraid that if I had been in Tyrol's place, I would have told Adama to shoot Cally, then shoot me as well; probably leading to a further splintering of the fleet. If I had been Tyrol and taken the actions he did, I would at some point and time get something back from Adama for threatening to shoot Cally.

I enjoyed the scene with Tyrol and Roslin, and seeing Ceelix being allowed to go to ground school at the end of the episode was, I think, the only episode I can remember that had a good ending.

All you lefties out there can mark this on your calender...I was rooting for the Colonial Workers Union.

Public Hearing in Jackson County Concerning New Construction Moratorium

I didn't mean to follow this story, but as I came through Sylva on my way home, I noticed a convoy of trucks leaving Sylva, and realized what was happening, that tonight was the Public Hearing I had been reading about in the Sylva Herald.

I have uploaded the videos to West Carolina Report and the still shots to my Photoblog because I really hate small photos.

The results of the meeting will be published here (probably late Wednesday afternoon), and I will link to the story from West Carolina Report. I was unable to attend the Public Hearing, and I may hear from Mr. McNeely tomorrow or the next day.

SYLVA — Construction trucks presenting a show of force lined a roadway near Southwestern Community College on Tuesday as more than 1,300 people packed a public hearing on controlling growth.

Jackson County commissioners have proposed a six-month moratorium on new subdivisions while planners come up with guidelines for managing a building boom, much of it brought by newcomers to the area.

Commentary

I note in the AC-T coverage there were no photos of the construction-related trucks, just a report of their existence. Is this the result of a subtle bias, or did the reporter just not get there in time to photograph the trucks on the road, or side of the road? The made quite a sight, even parked on the side of the road.

There appears to be little concern for the property rights of people as the transplanted population seek to restrict the rights of other property owners, most often to preserve their 'viewshed,' and would restrict economic development that must take place to accommodate the expanding population.

What are the workers of these businesses to do if a moratorium is passed?
Will they be given special compensation, or allowances to draw unemployment during the period of this moratorium?

In the previous post, I said that I would work to increase my carbon footprint, and old Al has dwarfed any effort I had in mind. I need to dig up a photo of the Gore Mansion. I've heard rumors it looks just like the White House.

My power bill only runs between $60 and $80 a month since I've boosted the insulation.

I guess for the Democrats, it's do as I say, not do as I do.

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

Al Gore, Prophet of Doom

I began my daily routine at 2 am with a quick check of the news and saw that "an inconvenient truth" has won an Oscar for best documentary. In a world where Jimmy Carter and Yasir Arafat can share a Nobel Prize for Peace, it is expected...even though the film has been proven false in it's premise, it was a masterpiece of propaganda film making, like the Nazi Masterpiece, "Will."

If Al Gore is so sure of his hypothesis, why does he not face Bjorn Lomborg in debate? Why will he not even give an interview to reporters who have reported favorably on Lomberg's book, "The Skeptical Environmentalist?"

I'll tell you why. Because Al Gore knows it is a lie that humans are a significant contributor to Global Warming. The Solar Cycle, and Volcanic Emissions dwarf human emissions.


Gore, and his sycophants, keep bringing up Scientific Consensus as one of their arguments. My first path was in science, and their is no consensus in science, only in Marxist "Politically Correct" Theology. What scientists are supposed to rely on is the Scientific Method, which relies on observation and measurable, repeatable results.

As a personal protest against Al Gore, and his sycophants, I have been increasing my "Carbon Footprint" where ever possible, and I would like for you to join me.
Just do the opposite of what is suggested by that crowd. Leave your lights on. Take a driving vacation this year, and tour the countryside. Go to Cades Cove, Drive through your nearest National Park and camp out. Burn firewood, or if that isn't allowed, use Propane Stoves.

Or, if really want to stick it to them, just keep doing what you are doing... in their mind, that is still a criminal act because you are living in the most successful Capitalist Nation the world has ever seen, and even though we are less than 5 percent of the world's population, we generate most of it's wealth, and freely share it with others.

We have defeated Socialism, and they hate us for it, and we should rub it in their noses every chance we get. So go out, live your life, and ignore these nuts. Or do what I do, just laugh at them and point them to people who have already proven them wrong. Their heads will explode!!!

I am sure that everyone who reads, or stumbles upon, this blog knows exactly where I stand on most issues, and have no illusions about my political affiliation. They can then judge for themselves whether or not what I say has any veracity.

For the past week or so, we have heard that the Brits are leaving Iraq, and being feed horsecrap about why they are doing so in furtherance of their [the media] political agenda, and quite possibly due to Bush Derangement Syndrome.

For Mark Johnson

This is Linda Cobaugh. She lost her brother, Mark Johnson to drugs. He was shot and killed over drug money.[Blogger refuses to let me post the photo...Click Here to see a full-size image on my photoBlog.--TP]

This is only one of the hundreds of people who have been harmed by drugs at the "Stop The Harm" Flashlight Vigil last night at City-County Plaza in Asheville, NC.

For me, this lady represents the hope that we can stop the harm. We can save people from drugs, we can save the families, the communities harmed by drugs.

The flag she holds represents all that is good about America, and hope that together we can do something about the problem.
