GENERAL OUTLOOK
Hot and humid high pressure will remain across the region through the rest of the week. The chance of showers and thunderstorms will slowly increase through the Labor Day holiday weekend. Temperatures will remain above normal through the weekend falling to below normal for the middle of next week as a cold front moves south of the area and cooler high pressure builds in from the north.

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:
1. Central Tropical Atlantic:
A tropical wave over the central Tropical Atlantic continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms that are a little more concentrated near its axis. Environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development of this system, and a tropical depression could form by early next week while it moves westward at 10 to 15 mph, approaching the Lesser Antilles. The system is then forecast to continue moving westward to west-northwestward across portions of the eastern and central Caribbean Sea by the middle part of next week.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...medium...50 percent.
2. Eastern Tropical Atlantic:
Another tropical wave just west of the coast of Africa is currently associated with an area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Some slow development of this system is possible through the middle portion of next week as it moves slowly to the west-northwest or northwest over the Eastern Tropical Atlantic.

Board of Education Forum at the Franklin High School Fine Arts Centery
Event: Board of Education Candidate Forum
Date: Sunday, August 25
Time: 6:00 - 7:30 pm
Place: Franklin Fine Arts Center, Franklin High School
Organizers: Young Progressive Voters Group of Macon County
Our group is hosting a multipartisan candidate forum for the three Macon County Board of Education candidates to have an opportunity to present their views to the voters of Macon County. The group's idea is to attract more young voters to the polls by making it a more casual, fun event. The format is similar to the game show, "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" We will have two panels, one of BOE candidates and one of teachers as contestants. We prepared trivia questions and campaign questions in advance and have sent them to the candidates to give them time to prepare for the event. Democratic Candidate for NC Superintendent of Public Instruction, Mo Green will be the emcee for the first half of the event.
We think this would be a fun, innovative way to get the people of Macon County together to support our local school board candidates. Sunday, August 25th from 6 - 7 pm.

8-17-24—Jim Corbett—New to The Frog, an Acoustic Guitarist with sounds from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Jim came to us with a resume of awards won, songs recorded, places he’s played and groups of which he’s been a part. Known in the Highlands area, we welcome the artistry of Jim Corbett to The Frog.
8-24-24—Barry Roma—King of the Area Crooners, come hear Barry lend his baritone voice to oldies by Sinatra, Orbison, Johnny Mathis and more. You’ll fall in love just like you did in the 50’s and 60’s by the light of that drive-in screen.
8-31-24---Jim Austin’s Classic Country Band—Country Classics that you don’t hear on the radio anymore. You’ll love the history of the artists and the big sound of the band with Jim Austin and his talented group.
