NWS GENERAL OUTLOOK

1. High Wind Watch upgraded to High Wind Warning for portions of the NC mountains near the Blue Ridge Escarpment. The NC foothills just east of the Escarpment, previously in High Wind Watch, are now in Wind Advisory, along with Greenville Mountains zone and Macon County. Wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph will be possible in the Advisory area and 55 to 65 mph in the Warning area. These conditions may knock down tree limbs and cause power outages. Stronger winds will increase the likelihood of those impacts but also could be associated with minor structural damage.

2. A Cold Weather Advisory was issued for portions of the North Carolina mountains Friday night into early Sunday morning as dangerously cold wind chills could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken.

3. Depending on how much fuels dry out prior to Saturday, some locations along and east of the Blue Ridge could get near Red Flag Warning criteria due to critical relative humidity values overlapping with gusty winds. These conditions may lead to a favorable fire environment where fires could spread quickly.

4. Much warmer and above normal temperatures return for most of the workweek with precipitation chances returning mid to late week.
