Macon County Sheriff’s Office Terminates Deputy Named in Outside Criminal Investigation

 

Macon County, NC — Sheriff Brent Holbrooks has terminated the employment of Deputy David Blanton after receiving notice from an outside law enforcement agency that Blanton had been named in a criminal investigation and that criminal charges had been issued.

The sheriff’s office was first notified of the investigation on October 22, 2026, and received confirmation that charges had been filed on October 23. Because the investigation is being conducted by an outside agency, the Macon County Sheriff’s Office has no additional information available at this time.

On Thursday, October 22, 2026, Sheriff Brent Holbrooks received information from an outside law enforcement agency that a deputy of the Macon County Sheriff’s Office had been named in a criminal investigation. On today’s date, Sheriff Holbrooks received further information that criminal charges were issued pertaining to the aforementioned criminal investigation. Sheriff Holbrooks effectively terminated the employment of Deputy David Blanton.
