Okay, I'm asking all my friends to share this post. My boxer went missing Friday, January 4th. Her name is Roxy she's not aggressive. She's very friendly. She is microchipped. She was wearing her shock collar when she disappeared that goes with her PetSafe wireless pet containment system. I live off of Olive Hill and the Burningtown area next to the airport. I looked for her yesterday and I'm out looking for her again today. Please help me find her way home. She may just seem like a dog to you or to anybody else but she's my therapy dog from when my little girl passed away.

By Tuesday...a weak cold front will cross the area from the west...before another large area of dry high pressure builds in and lingers through the end of the week. Northwest winds will come up sharply behind the front and produce very gusty conditions during the early morning hours and then through the day on Saturday.

* LOCATIONS...Elevations above 3500 feet in the southern mountains of western North Carolina.

The Flood Watch continues for Macon County from 1 AM EST Friday through Saturday morning

* Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall late tonight through Friday, combined with already saturated soils and elevated water levels, will likely lead to flooding of area streams and mainstem rivers. Additional rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 2 inches are likely in the Watch area, with localized 2 to 3 inch amounts possible in the extreme southern Appalachians near where the Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina borders intersect.

* Flooding of area streams and mainstem rivers will likely inundate low-lying areas adjacent to streams: including farmland, parks, and campgrounds. Flooding is most likely along the upper French Broad River and associated tributaries. Isolated landslides will also be possible in steeply-sloped areas with a history of slope movement.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.

Heavy rain impacting very wet soils in similar storms has been associated with an increased risk of landslides and rockslides. If you live on a mountainside or in a cove at the base of a mountain, especially near a stream, be ready to leave in advance of the storm or as quickly as possible should rising water, moving earth, or rocks threaten. Consider postponing travel on mountain roads during the period of heavy rainfall.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop. These actions typically include moving to higher ground if flooding is imminent, and moving belongings to higher ground well before flooding develops in normally flood-prone areas.

Mission Health activates Visitor Limitation Policy due to increased influenza-like activity, asks visitors to help limit patient visits

JANUARY 3, 2019


ASHEVILLE – Jan. 3, 2019 – Mission Health is implementing its Visitor Limitation Policy and asking patients’ family members and friends to limit hospital visits, effective Jan. 3. Visitors younger than 12 and those who do not feel well are encouraged to call patients instead of visiting them. All persons visiting the hospital and community members should practice good hand hygiene.

There have been reports of an increase in reported influenza (flu) activity throughout North Carolina. According to the North Carolina Public Health Division, flu-like illness in the state has reached more than 2 percent and local transmission has increased.

This precaution is being implemented at Mission Hospital, member hospitals and affiliates in the western North Carolina region, which includes CarePartners in Asheville, Mission Hospital McDowell in Marion, Transylvania Regional Hospital in Brevard, Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine, Angel Medical Center in Franklin and Highlands-Cashiers Hospital in Highlands.

“We activate our Visitor Limitation Policy for the health and safety of our patients,” said Kathy Guyette, RN, Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and President of Regional Member Hospitals. “It is a vital precaution in preventing the spread of germs and in helping protect our community during flu season.”

Mission Health team members and visitors can help prevent the spread of influenza by practicing frequent hand hygiene, staying home if they are sick and getting an annual influenza vaccine. All visitors are urged to wash their hands before and after their visits. In addition, hand sanitizing stations are available at hospital entrances and throughout the buildings.

Practicing good hand hygiene is the No. 1 precaution individuals can take to protect against the flu virus and other germs. Individuals can also practice good habits like avoiding close contact with people who are sick, covering your cough, getting plenty of sleep, maintaining physical activity levels, managing your stress, drinking plenty of fluids and eating nutritious food.

Symptoms that could be early signs of the flu include fever, headache, cough, extreme dehydration, lightheadedness and shortness of breath. Treatment with antivirals is the most helpful within the first 48 hours of symptoms presenting. If you start to experience any of these symptoms or notice them in someone else, contact your primary care provider or seek medical care immediately.

Areas of dense fog is expected this morning. Fog could become quite dense. Please turn on your headlights while on the roadways so other motorists can see you.

Rain will redevelop late today in response to low pressure moving up from the Gulf Coast. Another period of moderate to heavy rainfall is expected on Friday. With soils still soggy in many areas from the recent rainfall, these upcoming rain event may result in more flooding late this week. Flooding is especially likely along rivers that remain at elevated stages.

Rain will redevelop across the region later today into early Thursday as a frontal system moves over the region. A brief dry period may occur late Thursday, but in response to low pressure moving up from the Gulf Coast, another period of moderate to heavy rainfall is expected by Friday. With soils remaining soggy in many areas following the rainy period between Christmas and New Year`s, these upcoming rain events may result in more flooding late this week.
