Rasmussen Numbers for Dec 19th

The Rasmussen Daily Numbers are in:

The GOP:

  1. Hucklebee 22%
  2. Julie Annie 16%
  3. Romney 16%
  4. McCain 13%
  5. Fredster 12%
  6. Ron Paul 6%
Looks like the Huck is sliding, and the next four positions are a virtual dead heat. As I understand the rules of the Iowa Caucus, the voters get to list a second choice, which could render these numbers useless since they are all so close.

The Dems:

  1. Hilda Beast 42%
  2. Obama 24%
  3. Edwards 15%

I was getting worried there for alittle bit that the Oprabama Machine would ruin the GOP chances by killing the Hilda Beast before the General Election. I think that Hillary would be easily beatable, and Obama (especially if paired with Edwards) would stomp the GOP in 2008.

The big bonus for the GOP if Hillary is the nominee is the coat tail effect, or in this case, the opposite...many GOP Congress Critters for the 111th Congress would benefit from her high negatives. Enough to perhaps tilt the House back into the Red Column by a slim margin.

The thing that has disturbed me about this election cycle is the sheer number of people running for the top slot. It cheapens the whole thing, and makes us look like some third world nation, or worse yet, a parliamentary democracy. We would be well and truly screwed if there were third parties involved in the primaries, and national elections. Strong third parties (and 4th, 5th, etc.) are disasters for republics...they become easy prey for charismatic demagogues.

Daily tracking results are from survey interviews conducted over four days ending last night. Each update includes approximately 750 Likely Democratic Primary Voters and 600 Likely Republican Primary Voters. Margin of sampling error for each is +/- 4 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
