Young Maconians Work to Clean the Little Tennessee River

I spent the day with an amazing group of young people from three organizations, NC Big Sweep, Franklin Young Professionals and the Land Trust for the Little Tennessee. The above video is of some of the members of NC Big Sweep and the Franklin Young Professionals who had teamed up to cleanup the Little Tennessee River.

I followed one group this morning as they worked to clean a section of the Little Tennessee River below the Lake Emory Dam and saw all manner of trash removed from the banks and from the river itself. I saw tires big and small, plastic soft drink bottles by the dozen, a rubber raft, and even a water heater that took six young men a bit of time to remove from the river.

The next time you see a member of these organizations, stop them and thank them for their service to the community.
