A little drier air will mix into the region through Monday. More humid and unsettled weather returns by the middle of the week as a frontal boundary creeps toward the area from the south. A more substantial system will move through the area by the weekend.

HAZARDS

Dense fog this morning will pose a hazard. After it burns off, no hazardous weather conditions are expected today.

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement regarding the patchy fog that has developed this morning. It is quite thick in places, so please exercise caution when driving, leave a little early and allow extra space between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you. Turn on your headlights so other cars can see you.

Patchy dense fog has developed this morning in the mountain valleys of western North Carolina and northeast Georgia. Visibilities as low as 1/2 mile are possible. Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling on area roadways this morning.

SYRINGE EXCHANGE PROGRAM

On January 1, 2017, the Syringe Exchange Program of Franklin began operating a comprehensive harm reduction program to address the opioid epidemic that is impacting western NC. Opioid overdose reversal kits including naloxone are available free of charge.
