Macon County Emergency Management urges residents to be vigilant this evening for the threat of high winds, downed power lines and blocked roads. Highlands is experiencing high winds resulting in downed trees, power lines and blocked roads. Residents should still prepare for up to 2"»4" of rain and the possibility of winds gusting to 50 mph. The threat of localized flash flooding and downed trees/powerlines will persist into the evening and overnight hours tonight and could potentially cause travel disruptions and power outages.

Plans to open an emergency shelter for residents that need to leave their home are still in place if and when the need arises.

Residents are urged to call 828-369-91 16 to report non-emergency situations. This number should not be called for informational requests.

Macon County Emergency Management will continue to update the Macon County School System as conditions
change.
