A weak cold front will stall across the area today. Slightly drier and more stable air will work into the region from the north today, but summertime heat, humidity, and afternoon storms will return over the weekend. Much of next week will remain very hot, with scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms.

On January 1, 2017, the Syringe Exchange Program of Franklin began operating a comprehensive harm reduction program to address the opioid epidemic that is impacting western NC.
