Daily Weather Briefing for Wednesday, June 27, 2018

LOCAL OUTLOOK

Low-pressure will pass by to the north of the region this afternoon and evening, enhancing thunderstorm coverage for yet another day. Some showers or storms could linger tonight as an associated cold front settles into the area. Despite the front, hot weather will return to end the week, though precipitation chances will be lower.

Afternoon Thunderstorms

For a fourth day in a row, there were numerous thunderstorms in Macon County, although these were not as strong as the Saturday and Sunday storms. Area fire departments responded to calls regarding downed trees and power lines, including a lightning strike at the Oak Forest Apartments and an abandoned tractor-trailer on US-64 on Winding Stairs Gap. Small hail quarter-size and smaller fell in the county, but widespread damage was not reported. An open thread on Facebook was operated during the storms. [LINK]

More storms are expected today, tonight and possibly Thursday.
