Franklin Town Manager Submits Letter of Resignation

Due to ongoing transportation issues, Macon Media was not able to be present at the Franklin Town Council Worksession or the County Commissioner meeting last night (April 13th). A member of the town council was kind enough to send a copy of a resignation letter submitted by Summer Woodard, the Town Manager. No press release has been issued as of 4am on April 14th. A copy of the resingation letter has been posted below.

April 13, 2021
Honorable Mayor Robert S. Scott
Town Council
95 East Main Street
Franklin, NC 28734

Dear Mayor Scott and Town Council Members,

I have been offered an opportunity to serve as the City Manager for Reidsville, NC. I am honored to have been selected as the new City Manager for the City of Reidsville. I ask that Mayor Scott and Town Council accept this letter as my official resignation as Town Manager for the Town of Franklin. My last official day with the Town of Franklin will be Monday June 7, 2021.

The Town of Franklin afforded me several opportunities in my eleven (11) years with the Town. The Town of Franklin allowed me the opportunity of an internship in 2010 to complete my Masters of Public Administration degree from Western Carolina University. After, completing my internship and Masters Degree the Town of Franklin hired me to work as a Customer Service Representative, Assistant to the Town Manager, Human Resource Officer, Interim Town Manager and for the past 6.5 years Town Manager. I am forever grateful and humbled by the opportunities the Town of Franklin has given me over the past decade.

The Town of Franklin has accomplished many projects and built a sustainable vessel due to the guidance of Mayor Scott, Town Council and most importantly the Town employees. The Town of Franklin employees are the greatest asset to this organization. The Town of Franklin employees give their all everyday to ensure residents and visitors are provided exemplary services. The Town of Franklin is a better place because of the employees that work here.

Sincerely,

Summer Woodard
