The Future of The John Batchelor Show

An announcement on John's site reveals that the show will be on hiatus, implying a return. So say we all.

Late Fall '06. That's Oct-Nov, right?

Well I'm certainly in higher spirits about this tonight after what he said on air and on his website. It sounds like he's got stuff lined up already (or at least lining up soon).

He did say on air "I did NOT instigate this". Which makes me wonder. Perhaps WABC had nothing to do with this. Didn't some big company buy most ABC Radio stations from Clear Channel recently? Maybe they're the ones who axed him?

Disney owns ABC, they are almost as bad as Clear Channel.
I've seen stuff that said the WABC ratings were slipping, I made the switch to XM because I couldn't handle the changing reception in West Carolina.
My email to John keeps bouncing back, labeled spam, so I'll just keep trolling his site, column in the NY Sun, You, and Pundita, for updates.
I guess I'll sign, as live-blogging The John Batchelor Show from a wet, rocky hillside in West Carolina.

I heard John talk about this on the show last night. It's by far the best show on the radio and I can't believe it's going off the air. Such a bummer, but hopefully not for long. As long as he doesn't move to Sirius (I have XM as well...)

I've considered going to satellite radio recently because while the reception is fine here just outside New York City, the choice of programming is about as dismal as it can get in terms of music. If John makes the jump to either XM or Sirius, I'll have an even better reason.

I'm sure John will update his website with whatever announcements are to come.

Sorry I didn't hang around, had to get some sleep. I'll listen to the rest of the show today, and this time, I won't delete it.

I too am furious about the cancellation of what I think is the best news/public affairs program out there.

Will watch this closely, and will put some comments on my blog.

Hang in there.

From what I've heard on his show, there is something in the works regarding The Hoover Institution. If this is so, I will have to renew my subscription to their quarterly, which I let lapse while moving.
As to ABC Radio Networks dropping John, they have no clue about ratings, except through statistical analysis, and you know what Mark Twain said about Statistics. (I think it was him)
1. Lies
2. Damned Lies
3. Statistics
I also thnk that John fills a void in presentation of the news thast no one else does.
Look at this as an opportunity to be free of the suits at Disney/ABC.

I don't think the show was promoted well. WABC has promoted the Mark Levin show and it is doing well. I do not know if Batchelor made efforts to join in these promotions or was excluded.

His show was extreemly high quality. However, the show was better with Paul Alexander and Monica Crowley.

You are correct in the promotion dept. Plus Mark Levin has Sean Hannity stumping for him.
I've turned perhaps a dozen people on to the show...all of them local, and buying XM Radios after hearing him on mineafter a movie, and only one of them would qualify as a talk radio type.
Monica and Paul were nice to listen to, providing a point and counterpoint to John's middle-of-the -road approach to some issues.
I'm not one of those who has to agree with everything a host says.

Oh, I almost forgot...I even like to listen to Lynn Samuels in the spring and fall skip season when she was on WABC, and I lived in Terre Haute, Indiana. I almost never agreed with her, but I enjkoyed hearing her go on about things, sort of like how Jerry Seifeld would listen to George Costanza go on...
