Hydrological Report for Western North Carolina
January 17, 2010

The recent rain has caused chunks of ice to fall in the road on Highway 28 South between Franklin, NC and Highlands, NC in southern Macon County. From the radio traffic, the NCDOT are having a time keeping the road clear, and the local sheriff's department is receiving numerous calls on the problem.

Here are a few graphs from the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service of the National Weather Service regarding a few locations that may have a bit of high water today or tomorrow due to the rain we've received in the past 24 hours, and none of them appear like they will be leading to moderate or severe flooding at this time:

So, as you can see, things seem to be well in hand regarding the potential for major flooding in our area for this particular rain event, which is almost over now.

As always, please refer to the National Weather Service for official and updated information.
