Today in Weather History

1954: Hurricane Hazel swept through the Carolinas and was in Pennsylvania before the day was over. Over a thousand people would die, hundreds of beachfront buildings and thousands of homes were destroyed in South and North Carolina from the storm. The National Guard would be deployed to help with the aftermath.

1984: The Monday Night Football game in Denver, Colorado was played in a raging blizzard. 15 inches of snow fell with up to 34 inches reported in the nearby mountains. The Air Force Academy canceled classes for the first time in its' recorded history.
