Hazards
Another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms is expected today. A few of these storms could become strong to severe, with small hail and damaging wind gusts as the main hazards. In addition, a tropical system is expected to strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico Wednesday into Thursday as it tracks northward. The tropical system will impact the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia Thursday into late Friday, bringing gusty winds and heavy rainfall.

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine, located over the northwestern Caribbean Sea.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...high...near 100 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...high...near 100 percent.
1. Eastern and Central Tropical Atlantic:
Shower and thunderstorm activity associated with a tropical wave located near the Cabo Verde Islands has become more concentrated since yesterday. Environmental conditions appear favorable for gradual development of this system, and a tropical depression is likely to form in a few days while it moves westward to west-northwestward across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...30 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...high...80 percent.

Hazards
