Slow Moving Thunderstorms Produce Flooding in WNC Mountains

Photo: Lightning from a Storm dumping flooding rains in Jackson County this afternoon.

I've been watching storm after storm form in southern Macon County and then drift NNE into Jackson County all afternoon. There are Flood Advisories for those sections of both counties that have been issued by the National Weather Service because some of them have been producing 1 to 2 (and even 3) inches per hour of rainfall.

The problem with slow moving storms has happened in Cherokee, Haywood, Transylvania, Buncombe and Madison as well.

And, according to the National Weather Service, we are likely to see more storms tomorrow...
