GENERAL OUTLOOK

A strong cold front moves into the area Monday and brings the scattered showers to an end. The coldest air of the season so far will be ushered in and bring about widespread freezing temperatures and frost for most of the week, with a warming trend back to near normal expected for the weekend.

* WHAT...Sub-freezing temperatures in the 20s expected.

* WHERE...The mountains of western North Carolina.

* WHEN...From midnight tonight to noon EDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Freezing temperatures will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

The Macon County Board of Education will hold a joint meeting with the Macon County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at 6:00 p.m., in the Fine Arts Center on the campus of Franklin High School.

During this joint session, LS3P architecture will present the proposed schematic design for Franklin High School. The Board of Education may also conduct other business as needed.

The public is encouraged to attend.
