PRESS RELEASE (01-03-2022)
MACON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

On January 1, 2023 at approximately 12:00 pm Macon County Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the Walnut Creek area following a 911 call that had been placed in reference to a dispute that was ongoing. Upon arrival deputies found a male victim at the location and it was obvious to responding deputies that the victim had been involved in the reported altercation. Victim was unresponsive at the time of the arrival. Macon County EMS and Cullasaja First Responders responded but victim was determined to be deceased.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the scene and initiated their investigation into the incident. They were also assisted by the District Attorney’s Office. An autopsy has been requested and is expected to take place in the coming days.

Sheriff Brent Holbrooks states, “While this is an ongoing investigation we believe there is no immediate threat to the community and is an isolated incident.” Detectives will continue to investigate the incident and will follow up with all information they are able to obtain. Anyone who has information are encouraged to contact the Macon County Sheriff’s Office at 349-2104 or Crimestoppers at 349-2600. You can also provide information anonymously by submitting tips through our mobile app. Sheriff Holbrooks concludes, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the deceased individual. As your Sheriff, I want to assure our community that no stone will go unturned while we conduct a thorough investigation into this incident and get to the truth of exactly what happened.” Victims name is not being released by the MCSO at this time in an effort to give family and friends the opportunity to conduct their own notifications. MCSO will release the name of the deceased individual in a Press Release sometime on Tuesday.
