Dry and warm high pressure dominates the weather pattern through Friday. A strong cold front is expected to cross the region Saturday, bringing showers and a few thunderstorms. Dry and unseasonably cool high pressure builds in behind the front early next week. The next rain making system will arrive from the west in the middle of the week.

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality in Raleigh NC has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Ground Level Ozone for Avery, Mitchell, Yancey, Madison, Buncombe, Haywood, Jackson, Swain, Graham, and Macon Counties, until 7 AM EDT Thursday.
An Air Quality Action Day means that Ground Level Ozone concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards. For additional information, please visit the North Carolina Division of Air Quality Web site at https://airquality.climate.ncsu.edu/.

2015 – Ten people are killed in a bomb attack on a convoy carrying food supplies to a United Nations compound in Garowe in the Somali region of Puntland.
2021 – State of Minnesota v. Derek Michael Chauvin: Derek Chauvin is found guilty of all charges in the murder of George Floyd by the Fourth Judicial District Court of Minnesota.
