ICE Action Has Brought Jobs Back From Mexico

PRESS RELEASE

According to one local official, this week's ICE raid on Mills Manufacturing has substantially benefited Western North Carolina. 11th District Republican Congressional candidate Carl Mumpower is taking a position that at least 120 new jobs have resulted from the bust.

"Mills is rehiring for 57 positions and they are using the federal E-verify system to make sure that all employees are legal citizens," said Mumpower. "Down the street, Arvato (formerly Sonopress) had 60 people leave their job site when ICE raided Mills. To the credit of this company's management, per information passed to our office by someone in the plant, those 60 people were subsequently fired, and now Arvato is in the process of rehiring. Like Mills, they are using the E-verify program to make sure that their new employees are legal citizens."

Mumpower has challenged what he views as a "permissive" portrayal of the ICE intervention at Mills. "Much has been said about the negative impact to the illegal aliens affected, the company, and the families of those involved. I share sympathy for anyone who makes bad choices and has consequence, but most of the stories I have read are mighty enthusiastic about the victim end of the equation and mighty indifferent to the accountability end of the equation."

In Mumpower's view, the raid has resulted in a net gain of at least 120 jobs for American citizens. "ICE should be commended for bringing jobs back to our community in a time when a lot of working families need good jobs," said Mumpower. "If a new plant opened with a plan to provide 120 new jobs we would see a press conference and front page headlines. I doubt the Chamber of Commerce, one of many groups who have practiced appeasement policy on illegal immigration, will be taking that step. Those of us who believe that we need to start taking better care of America can have our own private party and celebrate the success. Employers in WNC are free to move their business to Mexico - this time they were held accountable for trying to move Mexico to WNC."

The Pope Says Other Denominations Cannot Be Called Churches

Is this where the Roman Catholic Church begins to establish itself to speak for the Anti-Christ?

In a document issued by the Vatican's congregation for the doctrine of the faith, it contained Pope Benedict's assertion that the Roman Catholic Church is the one church that Jesus Christ established on earth.

The Pope's statement also said that other Christian denominations cannot be called "churches" in the proper sense of the word, a comment that has prompted condemnation and confusion from Protestants and the Orthodox.

A Significant Number of Americans Favor Government Control of Free Speech

• Liberty is in danger of being extinguished...by our own hand.

Rasmussen recently published the results of a poll, and the numbers are startling:

Government Control of Media

47% of Americans believe that the United States Government should be involved in forcing ALL television and Radio Stations to offer equal amounts of conservative and liberal commentary. Only 39% oppose it. Last year, the numbers were evenly divided at 41% for and an equal number against.


Let me explain what that means. That means Rush Limbaugh would be required to set aside half of his program commentary time for a progressive. That means that Keith Olbermann would be required to set aside half his political commentary time for a conservative. The news networks would be required to give equal time to conservative reporting because they use liberal reporting to slant the news.

What would really happen is that Rush Limbaugh, and others, would leave terrestrial radio...killing AM Radio. They would find new homes on satellite radio and/or on the Internet.

Americans are on the verge of getting a heavy-handed Government that can regulate opinion on the airwaves.

Government Control of the Internet

The opinion on the Government control of the opinions expressed on the Internet are as follows: 31% favor the Government requiring equal conservative and liberal commentary being enforced on websites, including blogs. 50% oppose that.

Let me explain that for you as well. That means Daily Kos, Boing Boing, Talking Points Memo and all the lefty blogs would be required (by law) to offer an equal amount of conservative commentary. It also applies to righties like Michelle Malkin, Instapundit and the Little Green Footballs.

Locally, it would mean that I would have to give an equal number of words to a lefty (it is highly doubtful that any could keep up with my output), and the Scrutiny Hooligans would be required to do the same (I could manage it, but it would be extremely distasteful) by law.

Political Motivation

My opinion is that most people haven't thought this through to it's logical conclusion that we would be giving away freedoms to the government. And once the government takes a freedom...it is well nigh impossible to get it back through any means short of armed rebellion.

Here are some numbers to impress upon you the political nature of Controlling Your Speech:

By a slim margin, Liberals favor the Government gain control of the Television and Radio Station Political Commentary. The government will decide what is fair. Just like the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, Communist Cuba, North Korea, most Arab Countries, Chavez's Venezuela.

If the Fairness Doctrine passes...it will be goodnight and good luck to us all as America will slide into an era where faceless bureaucrats will decide when a political commenter or reporter merits an opposing voice given equal airtime.

We will see a new era of Identity Politics, and ever greater numbers of smaller political groups vying for an ever shrinking audience as most Americans will simply turn their televisions and radios to something other than news...and that, I believe, is the whole point.


The lefties will strangle our freedoms as they attempt to limit the number of people who can be exposed to Conservative viewpoints.


And do not think they will stop at your television and your radio. They will come for your Internet, too. They are already trying with something euphemistically named "Net Neutrality" that will have the same effect as the "Fairness Doctrine."

I will have to sign this piece with the name of Cassandra...because I believe the tide to be mostly irreversible at this point. Without great effort...we will loose another freedom to the hungry maw of the lefty quest for control over every aspect of our lives.

Aug. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Georgian officials said a Russian withdrawal stalled today as forces returned to the Black Sea port of Poti a day after U.S. President George W. Bush ordered a military-led humanitarian aid effort.

``The Russian troops have returned to Poti,'' Georgian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Khatuna Iosava said by telephone. Anatoly Nogovitsyn, deputy chief of Russia's General Staff, said Russia has no troops in Poti.

Russia informed Georgia's Interior Ministry that its troops will remain deployed around the city of Gori, near South Ossetia, for up to three days, ministry spokesman Shota Utiashvili said. Nogovitsyn said Russian troops are transporting seized Georgian military equipment in Gori.

The troop movements came two days after Georgia and Russia accepted a European Union-brokered peace plan for ending five days of fighting over the breakaway Georgian region of South Ossetia that began Aug. 8. The war, Russia's first major foreign offensive since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, has strained relations with the U.S., which considers Georgia one of its closest allies in the region.

GORI, Georgia — Explosions were heard near Gori on Thursday as a Russian troop withdrawal from the strategic city seemed to collapse. A fragile cease-fire appeared even more shaky as Russia's foreign minister declared that the world "can forget about any talk about Georgia's territorial integrity."

Commentary

I bet that Russia did not expect the Georgian military to put up the fight that it has...that they would trade ground for time. I also underestimated President george W Bush. He has risen to the occasion, and committed military resources to sending humanitarian aid to Georgia. I hope that plenty of bullets find their way into the relief packages.

TBILISI, Georgia - A C-17 Globemaster departed Ramstein Air Base, Germany, and landed at Tbilisi International Airport, Aug. 13, 2008, delivering $1 million in humanitarian aid to reduce the suffering of the people of the Republic of Georgia.

The joint military effort supported coordination by the U.S. State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development with the Georgians. The Department of Defense was requested to support with a joint U.S. military operation which launched with the delivery of 16 pallets of medicine, clothing, sleeping bags, cots and other essential items to Georgians.

"Our sole goal is to safely and rapidly deliver humanitarian aid to Georgia to alleviate human suffering and save lives," said Col. Benjamin Everson, chief of U.S. Army Europe's International Operations Division. "We will continue to support this humanitarian mission until the host nation and the U.S. State Department determine that it is no longer needed."

The C-17, based out of McGuire Air Force Base, N.J., was operated by a 3rd Airlift Squadron aircrew from Dover Air Force Base, Del., and landed among cheers and smiles from local nationals on the airfield.

Chemical Attack Planned for Denver Convention?

This may be nothing...

13 August 2008: The FBI, Joint Terrorism Task Force, the Colorado State Police, the Colorado National Guard, and various other state and local law enforcement agencies are involved in investigating the death of a man found in a Denver hotel on Monday. Saleman Adbirahman DIRIE, 29, a Somalian native who had been living in Canada, was dead for at least six days when found inside room 408 at the Burnsley Hotel, 1000 Grant Street, Denver, Colorado.

This law enforcement source stated that "police found two large bottles of a powdered cyanide-based substance inside of the room, in addition to other materials consistent with the storage and handling of cyanide."

According to authorities, no passport was found on Dirie or inside of his room.

The Burnsley Hotel is located about four blocks from the State Capitol building, and not far from many events associated with the Democratic National Convention scheduled in Denver later this month.

Russians Rounding Up Civilians In Georgia, America Responds

Some of my worst fears are confirmed through multiple sources...Russia is indeed rounding up civilians and trucking them away. Are they being hauled away for mass murder like the Germans did in the Second World War? Or, like the Islamofascists...are they going to murder them, and present them as victims slain by the other side? Or, are they merely seizing hostages?

The Georgians have set up a hotline for people seeking information, or those with information from the affected areas.

Here is an excerpt of a briefing given by President Saakashvili or Georgia today:

PRESIDENT: I’d like to briefly describe the situation. Russian tanks have advanced since morning, and moved into the town Gori. They have destroyed buildings, blown up and rampaged through houses. There has been looting by Russian troops, shooting at some people, theft of furniture, computers, everything valuable.

They are now on the main road leading from West to East, blocking the capital’s bloodline, 50km from Tbilisi. They have cut Georgia in half, West and East. The capital is now in some sort of economic blockade.

Regarding the situation in Abkhazia, South Ossetia: two things. First, the Russians have rampaged through Georgian-populated areas of South Ossetia, representing roughly half of what was South Ossetia. They have ethnically cleansed the population. They have separated men from women and set up internment camps for men in the area of Kouta. There are reports of summary executions. There is also looting in several villages.

In Upper Abkhazia, they have expelled practically the entire ethnic Georgian population. The town of Tskhinvali, at the moment when we left, was heavily bombarded. It was totally levelled. They turned it into a sort of second Grozny. We demanded immediate access for the international community, so that they could verify who was responsible. All indications are that the Russians deliberately levelled the city - they destroyed the place. We also have economic sabotage, a humanitarian crisis, and predatory incursions.

President George W. Bush has finally started to show some backbone, and is ordering supplies to be sent to the Georgians. I only hope their is plenty of weapons and ammo included in the airlifts to be delivered by our military.

Russian Troops Reported Looting Gori

Here is a timeline posted by the Georgian Foreign Ministry:

16:10 Russian troops from the city of Gori started moving towards Tbilisi

15:20 Alisia Vardanyan, Georgian GPB television journalists reports from Gori that marauding has started in the city. The residents are being robbed; the houses are being demolished by Russian tanks.

15:15 According to the reports from the civilians on the ground, Georgian population of villages Bobnevi, Marana, Dzevera, Khidistavi, Tchalaubani is escaping to the forest from the Ossetian separatists.

15:00 Gigi Mtvarelidze, member of Georgian CEC, have been robbed by the Russian-speaking militaries nearby Gori. They took his car with other possessions.

14:45 Paata Sabelashvili, photographer, reported from highway nearby Gori that mini-bus with Georgian civilians have been robbed by Ossetian separatists, one of the passengers, 25-year old women has been kidnapped by the attackers.

14:20 Many residents of Gori are escaping towards the village of Ateni, south of Gori, according to the reports on the ground.

The Georgian Government notes with concern the decision by the Russian Federation to breach the terms of the ceasefire agreed last night by Presidents Saakashvili, Medvedev and Sarkozy.

Reports from the media, diplomatic sources and our own intelligence confirm that Russian tanks moved into Gori this morning. They are still there, and are firing their guns. Reports speak of summary executions of Georgian civilians in the area.

The Georgian Government calls on the international community to pressure the Russian Federation to immediately stop the operations of its troops and return to the areas agreed in the ceasefire. The Government remains committed to the agreed ceasefire, and insists that Russia abide by its terms.

Here is an update on the cyberwarfare front:

The same patterns are being seen now, but the attacks are directed at Georgia. Again, none of this is being done officially, and the Russian government denies any involvement. Meanwhile, the Russian media, and Russian language Internet sites, are full of anti-Georgian propaganda, and were for weeks before the Russians attacked. Some of this bile is being picked up by other European users, and currently it's very fashionable on French web sites to blame the Russian invasion on the United States, and portray the Russians as the true victims.
Meanwhile, Estonia has sent two Cyber War exerts to Georgia, to help in dealing with the Internet based attacks coming out of Russia.

And what will the feckless EU do in response? Will NATO move troops into position between the Russians and Georgian positions, and into Abkhazia and Ossetia?

The first thing I would do is to bomb the Roki Tunnel to prevent future Russian incursions, and tell the Russians to stuff it. I have to admit...perhaps General Wesley Clark was right in his Kosovo confrontation with the Russians and his attempt to bomb the CNN Bureau in Belgrade certainly endeared him to me.

The Case Against Russia Updated with Breaking News

Here is an excerpt of an excellent case study of the run up to the Russian invasion of Georgia:

In August 2007, a Russian attack plane fired a missile into Georgian territory; it didn’t explode, and Georgia recovered the remains. Russia refused to take responsibility for the act, and the international community did not demand it. Georgia allowed the incident to pass without military response.

Russian military forces were gathering near Georgia as radical separatist groups in its South Ossetia region were organizing to try to break free of Georgian rule. In mid April of this year, the Putin regime gave official recognition to various documents issued by the separatists calling for cooperation with Moscow, and the Russian military presence was meant to intimidate the Georgians and prevent them from using force to crush the rebellion. Again, Georgia declined military force.

A few days later, as the elected government in Tbilisi began agitating internationally against Russia’s activities, a Russian MiG fighter jet flew into Georgian air space and shot down an unmanned Georgian reconnaissance plane. In May, the government won a resounding vote of confidence in parliamentary elections that were judged free and fair by international observers. In June, an independent UN investigation confirmed that Russia had committed an act of war against Georgia. As Georgia began to agitate vigorously for NATO membership, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov threatened menacingly: “We told the Georgians that their desire to join NATO will not help solve the problems of Abkhazia and South Ossetia; it will lead to renewed bloodshed.” In January, an overwhelming majority of Georgians had voted to join NATO...

The same blog offers a ten-step policy that NATO countries should take in response to this naked aggression:

1. Admit Ukraine. Arm it to the teeth.

2. Eject Russia from the G-8.

3. Call for Russia’s ejection from the U.N. Security Council.

4. Recall all national ambassadors from Moscow for 90 days.

5. Invite a conference of Russian opposition leaders to Brussels for a formal meeting with the EU, followed by one in Washington.

6. Begin supplying weapons to the rebels in Russia’s breakaway provinces of Chechnya and Ingushetia. Call openly for Russia to free these regions from bondage...[read more]

Commentary

I could not agree more. Had Europe responded to Hitler's expansionist crimes in the early 1930's, they could have saved 65 million lives that were later lost trying to defeat him. I hold that we face a similar threat from Russia now...with perhaps hundreds of millions of lives in the balance to be saved from annihilation in the future.

Russia has reported that they are stopping their offensive [video], their goals achieved, against Georgia. Meanwhile, fighting continues for the possession of the Kodori Gorge between Georgian and Abkaz forces. Abkhazia is another break away province of Georgia that has received material and political support from Russia.

Why all this trouble in Georgia?

South Ossetia and Abkhazia have been part of Georgia for centuries, and most recently when Georgia regained its independence from Russia.

The problem lies in the practice of the old Soviet Union to colonize nations it took over with ethnic Russians to the point where there was a measure of ethnic cleansing going on in vital areas in the conquered nation.

Many of the descendants of those imperial colonists in the Republic of Georgia are in South Ossetia (which covers part of 5 Georgia districts) and Abkhazi (which covers at least 3 Georgia districts, including vital sea ports). The separatists are heavily funded and supported by Moscow.

There is also an Oil Pipeline through which flows a million bbls or Oil daily, and can act as a lever Putin can use on Europe to keep them quiescent while he rebuilds the Soviet Empire.

And Putin is a villain, who is using the ethnic Russians as a pretext for invading Georgia, much like Hitler did last century.

This is bad. Very bad. I don't think that President Bush has made it clear to the Russians just how much of a mistake they are making. Of course, given Russian fatalism...it might not matter. I look for China to be getting ideas about taking Taiwan if they can figure out how to disable the Taiwanese military with minimum fuss.

Georgia — under its old borders — has effectively been lost to Russia. Moscow now sits aside the transportation links joining Tbilisi to the Georgia’s Black Sea ports. A Russian column has also reached the Senaki, at the western end of Georgia’s main flatland, the Kolkhida Lowland. The heartland of Georgia is now split in two. But the Georgian army remains apparently intact.

But the Russians have repeatedly failed to “bag” or encircle the Georgian Army, whose losses appear to be relatively light. The Georgians may have decided to avoid a ruinous battle for Gori, preserve their army and keep their state alive — even at the cost of abandoning their Black Sea ports and Kolkhida Lowland — in favor of a withdrawal behind the second of their major mountain ranges: the Lesser Caucasus.

Cyber Attacks Force Georgia To Blogger

Russia took over control of the major highway passing through Gori and “split the country’s western part with the east,” President Saakashvili said at a session of National Security Council at 8:45pm on August 11.

It was earlier reported that the Russian forces were in control of Gori.

Russian forces also advanced deep into the Georgian territory from breakaway Abkhazia as well taking control of Senaki and are now moving further into east from Senaki.

“Situation is extremely grave,” Saakashvili said. “This is occupation attempt, attempt to totally occupy Georgia, attempt to destroy Georgia.”

“Russia goal is to put an end to existence of the Georgian state,” he added.

“We are receiving only moral and humanitarian help from the international community, but we need more than that. We want them to stop this barbaric aggressor.”

I sure hope the Russians don't take out Blogger. In case the whole system goes down, I'll be at my Aplha Site.

In a situation like this...if Georgia wanted to, they could push out raw video to the net on the video-sharing sites, and let the bloggers in other countries help them get the word out about what is happening in Georgia.

This could develop into a real 5GW effort where we could join the information battlespace. I'd be more than willing to help combat Russia.

**update** 2.23 PM The President of Poland,Lech Kaczynski , is now allowing the President of Georgia to use his own website to get information out, and the Presidents of Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia have condemned the Russian invasion of Georgia.

Russians Land Troops By Sea In Abkhazia

This report is a little late, but I wanted to record it here:

There are some interesting considerations here. There are no reports of what type of ships are transporting Russian troops and equipment, but we can do some guessing. Based on what we have been hearing, while possible, we do not believe these are the Ropucha class LSTs that the Ukrainian bloggers have been noting, rather these are more likely some prepositioning ships Russia had prepared. Depending upon the number of ships, it could potentially be anywhere from a battalion or two, or perhaps a brigade or two. Unverified reports suggest the number is around 4,000. There are still no good press reports regarding the size of the naval force that deployed from the Ukraine, although it has been reported that both Cruisers at the Black Sea Base put to sea.

On July 31st, it was reported that Russia had completed a major railroad to Ochamchire, so it would appear this will be a major Russian logistics base.

While the tracks were repaired and peace negotiations stalled, the Russian military has been running major military maneuvers Kavkaz-2008 in the North Caucasus close to the Georgian border since July 15. It was announced that some 8,000 servicemen, 700 pieces of armor and artillery, and 30 aircraft are taking part in the exercises that officially are to prepare for encounters with terrorists. But there have been reports in the Russian press that the number of troops is substantially higher (Nezavisimaya Gazeta, July 18). The maneuvers involve airborne, motor-rifle and mountain troops of the North Caucasian Military District as well as paratroopers from the 76th airborne division from Pskov and marines of the Black Sea and Caspian fleets. Paratroopers were deployed on the border with South Ossetia on the Roki and Mamisoni mountain passes of the main Caucasian ridge. The paratroopers were reinforced by mechanized and mountain troops. Black Sea fleet marines landed near Adler, supported by airpower and Black Sea battle ships firing artillery and antiaircraft missiles—all, allegedly, to prepare to fight “terrorists” (ITAR-TASS, July 23).

Commentary

If this report is true...then Russia is expanding the war beyong the Georgian province of South Ossetia into the Georgian province of Abkhazia. And all the while, Russia is degrading the infrastructure of Georgia with bombing raids, missile attacks, and artillery fire. There are also reports that the Russian navy has sunk two Georgian patrol boats.

The War on You Tube

I haven't heard if this war has been given a name, yet. So, I will refer to it as the Russian Olympic War, because it started during the 29th Olympiad, and on the opening day.

I have been tracking the developments of this war online through various news services, blogs (in English and Russian), and have subscribed to various tags on the major video sharing sites. I had to discontinue subscribing to the tags because of the large number of retards who are tagging their videos with them to gain viewers...so I am doing it by hand.

Some of the first videos to appear were taken from local broadcasts or B-roll taken from the satellite uplinks by the networks. Yesterday, their started appearing videos made by people who favored one side or the other, and sought to make propaganda pieces and music videos set to the footage from the war.

Here is a music video from a supporter of Russia using combat footage and that nasty, evil sounding German rock music favored by Neo-Nazis and skinheads:



And, here is a video from a supporter of Georgia, imploring the world for help against the Russians, and offering a website to sign a petition (Warning--Do not under any circumstance give your personal email to any petition, as it could just be an email phishing operation. I always use one of my alternate, disposable accounts).
I may support the Georgian side in this conflict, but I am not stupid:






And here is a piece that is eerily reminecent of scenes from the movie Cloverfield, where a group of people run around after a Russian attack, and manage to catch one of the bomb or missile attacks (1:15). I can't understand what they are saying, but you can get the general idea by the tone of their voices:

And here is another video, which attempts to convey the history of the conflict between Russia and Georgia and (rightly) lays out Russian use of ethnic tensions to invade Georgia. I draw the historical parallel to Adolf Hitler's haranguing of his neighbors in the 1930's as a pretext for war:



In my personal opinion, I believe that Putin is doing that, and he wants control of the pipeline that goes into Turkey so that he will be in control of most of the oil that goes into Europe...for Europe is the real target of this war. He wants to re-establish Russia as the dominant nation in Eastern Europe...and he wants the Republics who broke away when the Soviet Union fell to become part of his new empire he is building.

And, if he can neutralize Georgia, he will gain an advantage to help his ally Iran in the coming conflict to deny them nuclear weapons.

Putin is a dangerous man, and he must be stopped by any means necessary...before he kills millions in his quest for power. Putin is a villian, pure and simple.

Georgia Calls For Ceasefire

TBILISI (AFP) — Georgia said Sunday it had ordered its forces, pushed back by superior Russian firepower, to cease fighting in the breakaway province of South Ossetia, and offered Moscow talks to end the conflict.

Shortly after the statement was issued, however, bombs fell on the outskirts of the Georgian capital Tbilisi targeting a military air force facility located close to the international airport, an AFP reporter witnessed.

Russian planes also dropped a bomb 200 metres (650 feet) from the runway at Tbilisi International Airport, interior ministry spokesman Shota Utiashvili told AFP.

Amid evidence the conflict was spreading to another restive Russian-backed region in the west of country, the Georgian foreign ministry said President Mikheil Saakashvili had called an end to his country's offensive.

"Georgian armed forces ceased fire in the Tskhinvali region," the statement said, adding that this message had been transferred to the Russians.

"Georgia expresses its readiness to immediately start negotiations with the Russian Federation on a ceasefire and termination of hostilities," the statement said.

Georgian troops were earlier withdrawn from most of South Ossetia in the face of a Russia force comprising thousands of troops, tanks and fighter jets, which now control the near-destroyed regional capital, Tskhinvali.

Russia broadened its bombing of Georgian territory outside South Ossetia, with the military airport in Tbilisi the latest in a string of targets across the country, Georgian officials say.

They also said Russia was bombing areas in and around another pro-Moscow region in the west of the country, Abkhazia, where the separatist government has declared a state of war in areas of the province populated by Georgians.

So, it appears that Russia has gotten away with their little "Weekend War", and have served to weaken Georgia again as they did in the 1993-1993 civil war. Mr. Putin is well on his way to re-establish the Soviet Empire under his new criminal enterprise.

I have been monitoring the blogs in the region, and some have noted that there was a recent deal where Russia gave China an island, and speculate it was payoff in advance, for example:

So...it appears that after this brief flare-up, this will go back to smoldering again, as Russia has gotten away with murdering several thousand Georgians...perhaps more than al-Qaeda murderd in New York City.
