Altered Frequencies is hosting a debate for the town council and mayoral candidates. The debate will take place at Altered Frequencies on Saturday, November 2nd at 2:00 PM, 110 Carolina Mtn Drive in Franklin. Invitees include all town council candidates, mayoral candidates, existing town council members, local news sources, and the public. Confirmed attendees include Bob Scott, Peter Mosco, and TJ Wright. Brandon McMahan is unable to attend but has sent in his answers which will be read. Joe Collins declined. Confirmed news sources planning to attend include Trappalachia and Macon Media News, Weather and Information.
The following questions are being asked, in addition to two questions selected from the public. Questions may be submitted at the debate or emailed to melissa@jepaca.org.
1. What do you believe is the role of the town government?
2. The Franklin town government has spent thousands and thousands of dollars for outside sources to tell us what the town needs and how to get there (ie. the Whitmire Property usage, the town land-use plan, and the sidewalk plan). What is the current state of action regarding these plans and how important do you feel it is to follow through on these plans?
3. If the town council were to re-vote today on the Nikwasi mound arrangement with the Nikwasi Initiative, would you vote for or against the agreement, and why?
The debate is being held as part of HalloWeekend AF (live music, costume contests, and more), in hopes that it will encourage younger and more diverse Franklin residents to be involved in local government. Anyone who attends the debate will be offered a 50% discount on entry to the festival.
