OUTLOOK

Southerly winds will develop across the region today through tonight as a cold front sweeps east across the Mississippi River Valley. Abundant moisture ahead of the cold front will cross the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia on Wednesday, bringing widespread showers and embedded thunderstorms to the region. The cold front will slow down as it reaches the southern Appalachians Wednesday night, finally moving east of the area on Thursday. Cooler air will begin spilling into the region on Friday, with additional disturbances arriving over the weekend from the northwest and reinforcing the cooler air across the area. Light accumulating snowfall will be possible across the higher ridges of the North Carolina mountains over the weekend.
