OUTLOOK

Dry high pressure will remain over the area, before a moist low pressure system advances from the southwest and increases rain chances tonight into Wednesday. Dry weather returns Thursday with a weak, yet moist, cold front crossing the region late Friday into Saturday.

Yesterday's Smoke Event

Yesterday afternoon, smoke from a 545-acre prescibed fire northwest of Walhalla, South Carolina drifted northwestward in Macon County, resulting in smoky and low visibility conditions and impacted breathing for those with breathing issues. INcluded below is a series of images showing the clud cover and the smoke trails for several controlled burns in the southeast. You can track the progress of the smoke from the fire in northwest South carolina as it drifted into Macon County. There was also a smaller 180-acre burn in the Big Laurel area of Swain County, but the smoke from that fire drifted into Cherokee and did not impact Macon County residents.
